I have a Crate Hater

My 4mo old Twizzi can't stand the Crate. She was paper
trained from the Breeder, so I was thinking that's why.
She stayed in her crate for maybe a week. I have put the treats in there, the door is always open.I have read all
your good advise on the site to no avail. I do put her in
the crate when I run errands. She barks and cry's but is quiet by the time I get back. I know she does'nt like car rides because of this.Oh I should mention she is bell trained and doing great. She sleeps with us and has done fine.Everyone say's ,mine loves it well ... I have put kongs with peanut butter and bulley's .I'm not worried now but when we go on a trip and my son has to watch her this will be a problem. I will get somebody for midday potty but... So my question is, Should
I re-crate train her?" And can you? I'm new here and this
site is great! I would put a pic. up but I don't know how.

I would work on getting her trained for the times where you need to crate her. Her is an article that I recommend. http://www.dogstardaily.com/training...-housetraining

Welcome!

I too have a crate hater, Scooter. We just did it wrong from the beginning with him and tried everything to get him to like it. He still doesn't and he won't go in willingly but he just goes to sleep when he's in there. The only time he's in is if we have to leave the house, at night he sleeps in a dog bed next to Murphy's crate. With Murphy we did it properly and he LOVES his! He'll go in on his own and go to sleep and at night he runs into it, turns around a few times, then just plops down and goes right to sleep.

I hope you can get to a point where he won't hate it so much.

Milo never enjoyed his crate, but loves his ex-pen with a bed inside.

Oh there is just a tiny thing with the ex pen. I leave the
room and Twizzi get's upset. She's potty trained, so I let
her follow me around. How long do you think you will
use the ex pen? I've heard all good things about them.
I might try one, do you think it will be better than the crate?

please read the article about long and short term confinement. You use both together. Get her used to being left alone and read up about Separation Anxiety at the same site. You are working on numerous things at the same time.

Thank you that is sound advise considering that her attention span
is short. It's a funny thing, I was just considering tying a kong inside the crate to get her to the vet(shots) and that web-site said
that's one of the ways to get her to like the crate.

yeah ,the idea is to make it appealing so they want to go in there. It's a long article ,but like I said it covers a few issues at the same time. Rule no. 1 though. NEVER put them in their kennel as a form of punishment. It's a great site and a wealth of advice. The twenty plus trainers there are all top notch and you can learn a lot from them.

Milo sleeps in his ex-pen at night. He also stays in his ex-pen when we go out or at work. We call it his "condo." When we are home, we leave the door open and sometimes find him in there sleeping.
