I think that accusation is a bit premature. The FDA responds: "Records or information compiled for law enforcement purposes when disclosure could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings.”

The FDA response alludes to something more might be coming with the jerky treat investigation; ‘records compiled for law enforcement purposes could interfere with enforcement proceedings’. Sounds hopeful doesn’t it? Is this actually hope for thousands of Chinese jerky treat victims or is it something else?

This is similar to a District Attorney refusing to divulge the basis of their investigation before they are prepared to make an indictment. It is my opinion that the FDA response is reasonable and responsible at this point.

In the meantime, I do not feed Ricky anything that I am not reasonably confident is healthy for him...and that does not include "Chinese turkey treats." Tonight his treat was a small Kong filled with a little bit of kibble, steamed fresh broccoli, and a little bit of cheese bits, all pre-frozen in the Kong. Kept him occupied for almost an hour while totally focused and absorbed in emptying the thing. Ricky is too valuable to us to jeopardize his health by feeding him nondescript and non-sourced treats.

What he said.

As a nutrition professional, I am only too aware of how easy foodborne illness can occur. I've seen it and it should not be taken lightly. Too often it is.

The FDA is a disgrace when it comes to pet food industry. Talk with people who have dealt with them and you'll get the real picture ...."This is a puzzle – more than 8 years in the making – at the cost of thousands of pets lives. Pet food/treat consumers deserve a lot better from FDA. We deserve to know the truth from FDA – we deserve to know the truth about Chinese imported jerky treats". http://truthaboutpetfood.com/fda-pul...ood-consumers/

Yes, they are a disgrace. And not just with pet food. They pander to the highest bidder. Talk to someone with HIV or anyone with a life threatening disease. They only approve drugs when their pockets are being lined. They deserve to be exposed.

Let me see if I understand, you contend that the FDA , a US governmental agency, is obligated to protect Canadian residents and their pets? What has the HPFB Canadian agency done for Canadian residents recently?

Here is the truth, Don't feed your pet anything from China or something that you cannot determine the origin. It is called self-responsibility.

I have heard this accusation before about various governmental agencies and from time to time, some individuals are prosecuted for corruption, but to paint the FDA with such a broad brush is not fair to the employees of that agency or their primary mission.

With regards to the FDA priorities, and their limited budget, I would rather have them protect human consumers first and foremost rather than pets. However, if we want to raise our taxes to increase the FDA budget, then sure, let's include pets too. Maybe Canadian residents would like to be taxed to supplement the FDA budget to include Canadian pets.

There are a plethora of candidates running for President right now from various political parties. You have an opportunity to analyze their positions on budgeting (or not) for education, consumer protection, military, family planning, equal rights, etc. You decide, you choose. I am voting for Ricky Ricardo for President. His motto is, "A full bowl at every meal!"
