We have been going through the exhausting process of finding the right breeder. This board has been invaluable in our search so thank you for that!
I think I've found the right breeder, but then some red flags have gone off. Who better to ask than my future Hav community!?
The breeder still shows her dogs.
She only shows and raises Havanese.
Puppy's parents are champions.
I've read several threads on this board from happy Hav owners who got more than one Hav from her.
The breeder has been extremely kind and actually advised us to not buy the dog we wanted because his personality didn't match with our lifestyle.
The puppy's mom was pregnant close to the age of 8. Is this bad? I've read conflicting reports about breeding older adults.
The OFFA site shows the mom's hips were last tested 5 1/2 years ago and were "fair."
Her CERF was tested 3 years ago.
Her Patella was tested 6 years ago.
Dad's CERF and Patella results are a year old.
I'm too far away to visit the breeder and there are none close by so would have to meet the puppy when he arrived.
It's a huge decision and I want to do it right. I've talked to other breeders and been willing to fly a few hundred miles, but the puppies have been sold before I can even set up a good date and time to meet the breeder.
Would love to hear your opinions about the pros and cons. Am I off base in my concerns?
