SF Bay Area Playdates: New Playgroup Meeting Regularly

A few of you on the forum are already part of our little playgroup, but I thought that I would send a general notice to invite anyone else who might be interested in joining us. We meet roughly twice a month. Here’s what we’ve got coming up soon:
September 6th: A romp on the lawn in San Francisco’s Lafayette Park. (We’ll meet near the tennis courts at 11:30am)
September 20th: A walk through Richmond’s Pt. Isabel in the East Bay. (We’ll meet on the hill near Mudpuppy’s at 11:30am)
October dates and places are still TBD, but will hopefully include a playdate on the Peninsula.

Just so you know what you are getting yourselves into: We are a very casual, laid-back group so there aren’t a lot of rules other than have fun, stay safe, and be nice to everyone else. Oh…and we’ve got a LOT of puppies. About a third of the havies in our group are under a year in age—a vestige of the fact that our group began as 100% puppies.

We have been meeting for months, but only finally got it together enough to put up a meetup page a few weeks ago. You can check us out (and hopefully join!) at www.meetup.com/sfhavanese. Hope to meet you all at a Hav-a-Romp, Hav-a-Walk, or Havie Hour soon! Sorry…the names were just too cute for us to pass up! Did I mention that we started as a bunch of puppy mommies???

Tracy

My pleasure--it's a great little group. I just wanted to give everyone here the chance to join in on the Havanese fun!

By the way, a video of the group’s most recent playdate just got posted to YouTube the other day. Here’s the link: http://bit.ly/7LNtK Enjoy!

Looks like a pretty good sized group! Is this one of the gatherings that James organizes?

Kimberly:

There are a few of us who work collaboratively to come up with activities that appeal to as many people as possible, but I somehow ended up as the "ringleader." We were initially just a very small group of Havanese puppy mommies who got together for playdates, to practice puppy class homework, and to commiserate as members of an unofficial “havie housebreaking support group.” (Yes, now you know the REAL reason we have “Havie Hours!”) But we have definitely grown to be a good sized group that includes both puppies and adult Havanese--several of whom are on the Forum. We would love to have more Forum Havs in our group, and since we heartily welcome group participation, we fully expect that this will make our playdates even more diverse and enjoyable!

Okay, please allow me to rephrase: Is James involved in the planning or dictating of how things run? Is he "banning" certain people from attending or deciding the rules of people bringing treats, leads, toys and what they are allowed to discuss?

Kimberly:

James is not even a member of our group. Our group’s only “rules” are really more like guidelines: “have fun, stay safe, and be nice to everyone else.” It is incredibly important to us that everyone (both Hav and Human) who joins us feels welcome, and is happy, comfortable, and at ease. That means treats, leads, toys, and all friendly topics of discussion are allowed. No one gets “banned” (unless they are really really mean…in which case we may have to have a little chat ).

Kimberly,

Tracy's meet up group is really nice and laid back. I showed up for the Fort Funston havanese walk with two standards (the rest of my human family was too busy to take them out. ). The group was so nice and understanding, no one got upset over having big dogs in their midsit (although I was fully prepared to not join the fun if there were objections) and we had a great time.

Julia:
Thank you for your really nice words. We loved having your standards walk with us! They were so sweet and absolutely gorgeous to boot. In fact, I hope that they can join the group again.

Kimberly:
I hope that you will be able to join us, too.
