Another scary episode

We had just returned from a long car ride and took our Hav into the backyard to relieve himself. A very large hawk swooped down and circled him but I was able to grab him quickly and run into the house. Don't leave your small dog outside alone for even a moment!!!!!

I agree. Even when i brought Henry out as a pup in the middle of the night - - collar and leash.
I knew there were FOX in there area and did not want to risk it for a moment.

That is terrible, and a good reminder for all of us. This was something I didn't realize with small dogs. I once heard that an animal needed to be at least 10 pounds for a hawk not to be able to lift it and take it away, but I won't take that chance.

Even if the hawk can't lift it up a dog can get very injured from the attempted lift.

I had a friend lose a dog to an owl. It didn't take the dog away but it died of the injuries.

Sometimes I feel like Nala could use a big dog to watch over her!

That is scary!

Our only concern is the occasional possum or skunk...but once we had a raccoon. I hear raccoons are very vicious.

I'm glad your dog is okay. You might have had heart failure!

Raccoons can be vicious. My friend's Yorkie was attacked in the face by one. The second time he encoutered a raccoon in the yard, he ran. But the raccoon attacked him from behind. Many stitches later, he is fine. It was an expensive vet bill

Scary! We have coyote, hawks and God only knows what else lurking in the woods surrounding our house. I never let Loki out by himself.

Thanks very much for the post : )

That is very scary. We had an owl hanging out around our house and picked up the neighbors dog. Sure glad you were there!

We had a bald eagle fly very close to the back yard. There are 4 that live around here and we see them often. The thought of one of them grabbing Rocky or Rudy is just.....well, I don't have words. They are never outside alone. Scary stuff.
