Exclamation Can anyone save our marriage?

My wife's birthday is coming soon. Her family and friends are asking her what I have planned to make the day special. She won't go anywhere without our pup Benjy. It's too hot to do anything outside. Any place inside won't allow a pet. What is a disadvantaged male to do? I have the wrong side of the brain to work this out. If I had known ahead of time this was going to happen, I could have ordered sweet, thoughtful things from the Internet to give her throughout the day. But I am legally blind and can't drive somewhere now to do it. (Don't worry, I can see Benjy's precious face very well with part of one eye.) I am a very imaginative, creative person. But sometimes I feel overwhelmed with the challenges of trying to make a wife and a pup happy at the same time. We moved into our home a few months ago. She wants a grill -- but can't decide if she wants gas or charcoal. She wants patio furniture -- but can't decide what she wants. Are we looking for an event or something to show for it? Any suggestions?

Places like Home Depot allow pets and they sell grills and patio furniture. Not a romantic outing, but Benjy can go and will love all the attention pups get in the store, your wife can take the time to choose a grill and/or a patio set and you made it all happen!!

Check out web sites like BringFido.com which will help find activities and restaurants in your area that allow pets. I have also found when I call some of the locally owned places and tell them my dog is small and only 10lb, they will agree to let us bring him in and in return they get a very loyal customer who gives them lots of word-of-mouth advertising.

Happy birthday to your wife and hope you guys have a great day!

Great ideas! We have Lowes, Home depot, etc nearby. I will see if the local stores allow dogs. They don't have any patio furniture left here, but they do have lots of overpriced grills. LOL (One of those things you may buy a big one for family gatherings you think you will have, but really should have bought a small one for just the two of you.) I will look at BringFido.com and see what they have. And thanks for the happy birthday wishes!

Well, we did it!

I called the local Lowes and they said NO to dogs. I called HomeDepot. They said YES to some dogs, BUT Benjy is too big! ggrrrr

It was an interesting birthday indeed. My wife Sue's birthday was Friday. The hospital just happened to schedule me for a sleep study to by done Thursday night. She had to drop me off at the sleep center at 9:30PM and pick me up at 6:00AM. We got an early start to her day. LOL

Her mom and her sister-in-law offered to sit for Benjy if we wanted to go for a day trip or movie. Sue said no to that. But she did agree to leave Benjy at home long enough to go to an Amish community an hour from here that we hadn't been to yet. So we went to an Amish restaurant and saw some crafts, etc. And went through the oldest general store in the state. (It reminded us of the oldest general store in Vermont we saw a couple years ago on our way to Maine.)

We went home and Benjy was fine. He was very glad to see us. Then to finish off her birthday, today we left him home again and went out to lunch and a new Menards store was having its grand opening. I got her two patio benches There weren't many grills left. Passed on that.

But she is thrilled to finally have real furniture for the front porch. She even liked the pattern on the cushions. She can put the $10 chairs from the drugstore in the backyard now.

Oh, I almost forget the flowers! I ordered flowers to be delivered Thursday while we (the 3 of us) were at a tennis match for her niece. I gave delivery instructions for them to be put in the back sunroom. We came home and Sue didn't know she had any flowers. I was able to sneak the flowers from the sunroom to the bedroom and put it on the dresser without her knowing about it. So I just left the flowers there for her to find. She was so excited to find flowers without hearing a delivery person and tipping her off.

So everything worked out really well. And I think she is going to feel more comfortable about leaving Benjy at home sometimes.

Benjy even made her a birthday card! (sloppykisscards.com)

That is just the sweetest card!!! What a wonderful husband you are. Happy B-Day to your wife! I know how difficult it is to leave your fluffy one at home. We haven't been on vacation in 2 yrs.
I am really surprised your not able to take Benji to Home Depot. My husband takes Scout and no one has ever said anything. Scout weighs 17lbs.
