Others, like many HOA do not want dogs around because some folks do not pick up after dogs.
Yes, that is one reason, but........ our gated community of 1200 homes in several hundred acres, has a wildlife refuge and wetlands habitat within the gates. We have a large population of bobcats, raccoons, cotton tails, deer, coyotes who also call this "home". Many residents can't tell the difference between raccoon scat and dog poop, so the doggies get blamed
My son had a party here recently, and one of the girls who came was afraid of PIXEL, for heaven's sake. If someone can be afraid of a 6 month old, tiny, fluffy puppy, they can be afraid of anything! What was she going to do? Gnaw on her pinky finger?
My mother did not like dogs. She did not like them licking her because she thought they carried a lot of germs in their mouth (little did she know about the human mouth!). Consequently, I grew up with an innate fear of dogs and was bitten a couple of times. It took years of "dog therapy" to get me to see the light.
I DO understand and respect the fact that there are people who don't LIKE dogs. I don't think I should force my dogs on people who don't like them. I also recognize that many people associate dogs with the poor behavior of many owners... letting them bark and bother people or worse, not picking up their poo.
Agree completely. A responsible owner teaches their dog boundaries and good manners. The only time Ricky ever barks is when he is not comfortable with a stranger coming on our property. He sounds the alert, I respond and tell him I am now taking control, and he quiets right down (although continuing to assess the situation as my "assistant"). And Waste Disposal Bags are now part of my standard attire wherever I go with Ricky! Haute couture!
OTOH, people who are yelling at dogs who are in their own car, with their owners are, IMO, just suffering for a combination of testosterone poisoning and age deficit.
