Are there people who don't like dogs?

Today, my wife Sue and I were driving through traffic and Benjy had his head at my window. (Sue was driving.) Someone in a pickup truck waving an American flag out the window yelled, "I kill dogs!" I was wanting to yell back, "I kill morons!" but he turned off.

Is it easier to aim a gun or a taser? I don't want to kill anyone. I want them to think about it after. Admittedly, I gave Benjy permission to pee on his face should we ever catch up with him. I guess I don't really want to hurt anyone, but can I keep a balloon filled with Benjy do handy in case this ever happens again?

Yesterday, my wife and I were running errands with her Mom. (Of course Benjy was there.) I volunteered to sit on the porch with Benjy while they went in a store. SO many people stopped to talked to Benjy. One very well dressed (snobby looking) woman turned her nose up at Benjy and said, "I don't like dogs." But then she smiled and said to Benjy, "But you are just so darned cute, I can't help myself. I love you!"

There is hope for the world yet!

Jeff

Yes, there are peoples who don't like us laid back Havadoggies, like the president of our HOA, who is trying to ban ALL doggies from our community. Mi Popi is fighting back by organizing the 400 doggie owners who live here. There is more than one way to skin a cat......oops, sorry mi kitty amigos.

I think a lot of dog people turn their noses up at the smaller, fluffy breeds. I feel they think these little breeds are just empty headed barking machines. Little do they know.

I know some people are afraid of dogs. Perhaps an incident from childhood.

Others, like many HOA do not want dogs around because some folks do not pick up after dogs.

Then there this: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

My son had a party here recently, and one of the girls who came was afraid of PIXEL, for heaven's sake. If someone can be afraid of a 6 month old, tiny, fluffy puppy, they can be afraid of anything! What was she going to do? Gnaw on her pinky finger?

I DO understand and respect the fact that there are people who don't LIKE dogs. I don't think I should force my dogs on people who don't like them. I also recognize that many people associate dogs with the poor behavior of many owners... letting them bark and bother people or worse, not picking up their poo.

OTOH, people who are yelling at dogs who are in their own car, with their owners are, IMO, just suffering for a combination of testosterone poisoning and age deficit.

Yes, that is one reason, but........ our gated community of 1200 homes in several hundred acres, has a wildlife refuge and wetlands habitat within the gates. We have a large population of bobcats, raccoons, cotton tails, deer, coyotes who also call this "home". Many residents can't tell the difference between raccoon scat and dog poop, so the doggies get blamed

My mother did not like dogs. She did not like them licking her because she thought they carried a lot of germs in their mouth (little did she know about the human mouth!). Consequently, I grew up with an innate fear of dogs and was bitten a couple of times. It took years of "dog therapy" to get me to see the light.

Agree completely. A responsible owner teaches their dog boundaries and good manners. The only time Ricky ever barks is when he is not comfortable with a stranger coming on our property. He sounds the alert, I respond and tell him I am now taking control, and he quiets right down (although continuing to assess the situation as my "assistant"). And Waste Disposal Bags are now part of my standard attire wherever I go with Ricky! Haute couture!

I remember a long time ago at work being at a "Team" meeting with our boss. One of the people said that animals belong in a barn. I said, "What's the point in having a dog if you don't let it in the house?" Then she said, "Animals are dirty and belong outside." I replied, "Now I suppose you are going to tell me my dog can't sleep in my bed?" Our boss, being the wise person she was, changed the topic of conversation.

Benjy is cleaner than some people I see in public.

Oh my! I must live in a bubble. I've never had anyone act so ugly towards an innocent animal ....at least not in my presence. I just saw a pretty good Bill Murray quote on FB on the subject.

"I'm suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person."

It's OK to live in a bubble. I've tried it both ways. It's good to have an awareness of things that you can have an affect on. But other than that... "make the world go away." Be good to people and be glad about it. But don't hang around hoping for a reward.

But Benjy says, "If you smile at people, they will unusually smile back. Unless they got their boxers in a bunch, in which case they should change breeds!"
