Color Changes

Mojo is now 20 weeks, and the formerly all black portions of his coat have turned light gray at the roots, as I show in this photo of the "part" along his center back. Any ideas what color my boy will end up? Much of his "black" fur is now only black at the tips, or on the outer 1/4 to 1/3 of the hair shaft.

Just wanted to say how beautiful Mojo is : )

I don't know how true this is, but I've heard the color of fur around the dogs eyes is the color he/she will turn out to be. It is holding true for Loki at 10 months. He started out a red/champagne/brown/black brindle. The champagne is his predominant color now with tinges of red and black ends.

It looks like Mojo is silvering out, but I am not an expert.

Wow, Mochi is turning brown!

How different they are even though coming from the same litter.

I had seen your photo of Mochi's color changes, which was what inspired me to post a photo of what Mojo's coat is doing.

I always noticed, even before any of the pups from the litter went home, that in Marian's photos Mojo's "black" looked less black than either your pup or the other black ones. Still, I didn't expect to see this pale grey/silver coming in. It's very interesting, what happens with Havanese coloring.

If Mojo's coat continues to change the way it's going, his first haircut will be quite dramatic!

Breeder says perhaps Mojo was more of a dark sable rather than a true black and tan. Still looking for anyone who has seen a color change similar to what I'm seeing.

I don't think that is unusual for many "black" havanese. If they have the silvering gene they do what Mojo is doing. Vinny did the same thing and I found out he is a black brindle. As his hair grows out, about an inch from his roots it turns black again! Then when he gets a puppy cut he is silver/black/white. Then the whole process repeats itself. When he was a puppy he had a white muzzle and now it has turned almost black. He is a three year old ever changing hav.

I've heard it said that the color a hav is is what ever color it is the day it crosses over rainbow ridge.

Our Bella was what we thought was a black and tan when we bought her. I was so excited! She did have a little silver and white on her face. But she too has turned silvery. She is still black, though more silver at the roots and a little bit out from that...the tan has gone. I loved her puppy colors...but we love her most of all so I guess I don't care what color she is...I don't have any recent picts of her or I'd show you.

Well, I posted Skin and Color changes on my Rosie and boy am I in for a surprise it seems. My little white with black puppy may change to grey or ticked or nearly black or something in between. I have been getting an education the last two days. I never dreamed that the color would change. So sit back and watch the show I guess.
