Question Pee pads

I have a question about these pee pads here...

How much abuse can these things take before they should be replaced? I gave Beamer a new one after he used it 2 times for pee only. Should I be using it longer?

Thanks!
Ryan

Freeway,

I let Houston goe a few times on it. It seems like when they are puppies they go all the time and only a small amount. Changing ever time - you would be broke. I wouldn't let it get too disgusting though because he might not want to go there any more. Let's face it, no one wants to use a dirty toilet.

There may be a thread out there about this. I seem to remember this.

For me, I would change it daily. If he ever did # 2, then I would pick it up with toilet paper and flush it. After he was in his crate for the night, I would change his pad, so that Oreo would have a fresh one for the day. When they are so tiny, then I am sure one a day would suffice - unless, heaven forbid, the pup had an upset tummy, then I would change it as needed.

My guys have all shredded their pads, so I went with the cloth/washable ones & they worked out great. I just bought a few and when they went on it, I would just throw it in the laundrey room. I tried the pee pee pad frame, but it really didnt work for us. They still seemed to try to pull them out to eat them!!! Breaker sure sounds normal!!

No matter what I do Smarty will not use the pads, I have put them in every room of the house. She was partly trained before I got her to go outside and if I miss the outside que then she had rather use the carpet than a pee pad. This would have made my life a lot easier this past week-end at the BR Specialty. Going out in the middle of the night in a strange motel is no fun. Good luck

Freeway, I use the pee pads with the holder and spray bitter apple lightly on them to stop Houston from biting them. You can purchase bitter apple in a spray bottle at any pet store.

A bunch of people on the forum recommended cloth washable pee pads which is a good idea. I just never got around to buying them yet and I have a whole bag of regular disposable ones to use.

I would buy a pee pad holder and see how that works for you. I've also heard that it's great to use washable pads when the puppies are young to stop the famous Havanese shreading. Good luck.
