havanese havanese

I was laughing when I thought of Havanese and their toys. Daisy has only one toy and that is Riki. She even only plays with him even when other havanese are around. Riki is definitely Daisy's valentine!

I was thinking, what is it that havanese truly love...besides us and good food?

All I know is whatever we decide, the quilts always come out so wonderful...it is our love of these guys that make it come through...and Julie's guidance!

I didn't just get havanese, I got a lifestyle!

Oh,I'm sorry Kara....yes I did. I got in a hurry to post a poll and just went ahead and put the vote up. I want to get this theme set and would like it all done the first week in March.

This poll ends the end of February and we'll have a quilters only vote for the top three themes and then we'll have it...I think by March 3rd or so.....we'll have a theme.

Nothing like being in a toot, huh?

I was surprised the Havs with landmarks didn't make the list.

Wow--I replied and it disappeared!
I'll try again.

I'm sorry you are disappointed.

The original idea "Have Hav will Travel" was a suggestion I had made myself I believe after quilt 1 after my favorite monthly photo challenge of Marj's. It has evolved into Landmarks and we have talked about states as well. Last year we had quite a bit of interest in this idea as I'm sure you recall? Anyway-the reason I took it out was 2 fold really. When you really think of it in a big way..not just a block, but an entire quilt....these are the issues.

It would scare a newbie have to death to make a block of the Eiffel Tower or Golden Gate bridge,Mt.Rushmore etc. Give that some serious thought, because can you pull off the skyline of New York or Mt.Rushmore and not need lettering to say New York? I'm not sure I could. Then if we simplify it and go with states.....say Iowa or Georgia...we can pick something that represents our state, but always we need lettering. If I made a block with Iowa and had a corn field with a pig and a hav on the pig,I'm still gonna need "Iowa" on there somewhere or people would look at it and think ?????what????? How would Iowa look any different then Georgia without the lettering? They have corn and pigs in Georgia too.The lettering becomes a huge issue. I'm actually against most all lettering on quilt blocks because it isn't consistant. The font varies, the size varies, the colors vary....everything about it would vary...giving it a "messy" and unappealing look. This is a great idea.....and someday this is a quilt I'd love to make as a forum,we are just not ready yet (skill set overall and the lettering issue)but----someday I hope the kinks are worked out and we can turn out a fabulous "Have Hav Will Travel Quilt" or Landmark or whatever it evolves into.

The idea suggested by Janet Zee about "Havs on the go" is a watered down version of this idea. I thought it better suited because it could be as simple as a hav in stroller or carrier,on a plane,in a suitcase with a passport in it's mouth and could easily adapt from a more involved quilt block showing the skyline of New York and a hav in a taxi,to a simple one with a hav on a bike or in a car. You see? No lettering problems too!

Believe it or not----I have hashed all these themes out and gave each and every one lots and lots of thought. I want to put forward a good mix, ones that let the imagination flow and do not seem overly complicated. Simple themes make for great ideas.

I went into alot of detail in reply to Geri's post because I want everyone to know why things like this occur.

It can appear I didn't listen to what others had to say or suggest, but that is not the case. Each and every idea has some kinks that have to be resolved before a quilt can come together. Some ideas although fabulous in a small way are not a good candidate for a large quilt,or with a huge mix of styles and skill sets etc. All those things are factors in any decisions I make.

I'm sorry if your theme you wanted to make or your suggestion didn't make the cut. It's not that all ideas were not fabulous....just many factors play into whether it suits the forum and skills of many many people.

I would strongly encourage each and every one of you to try to make a block or a wallhanging/quilt in your favorite idea. Many times something consistantly made by the same person or a very tiny group can produce a better overall result then a quilt made by many different people from all over. You can then control every aspect of the quilt or whatever you are making. Same fabric throughout, same style throughout, same skill set throughout etc.
