New Quilt 2011 "Bloomin Havanese" (florals)

Attention!!! Block makers, Time Is Running Out!!!!
*Quilt Blocks need to be in by February 1st*

Our new quilt theme was decided early (by request) by our block makers and is...."Bloomin' Havanese".

This should prove to be an extra fun quilt because it leaves alot of room for creativity through all the beautiful floral fabrics available!

A few ideas to get you going: Wearing a flower hat, laying in flowers, eating, smelling and even setting on a garden bench with flowers! Look at floral fabrics for inspiration and photos posted here...many quilt blocks can be made from photographs of your havanese.

We are an inclusive group and embrace everyone who wishes to make a quilt block. We encourage new people to the sewing/quilt world to be creative and join us!

If we have more blocks/volunteers then what will fit within the layout of the quilt-your block may/maynot appear on the quilt, but may be chosen to raise money in a different way (such as a pillow, tote, wallhanging etc.)to benefit our beloved breed, the havanese. Blocks will be placed within the quilt for an eye-pleasing look....not based on skill set. I prefer a good mix of styles and skills on our quilt.
FYI-ADVICE:
Remember to keep it simple. Add your details as needed, but if you have too much going on you lose the focus of the block...the havanese.Aim for middle of the road.

I am choosing a sage color as a unifying background because all other greens will show on this color. The sashing will be light colored on this quilt (a soft pink, yellow or maybe a white) to attempt to make the blocks "pop".

:Forum Quilt Guidelines:

1.we will be using a 10"x10" block(please cut slightly larger,as I will cut them when I receive the blocks) This block MUST be a SAGE GREEN (any shade of sage/print as you see fit for your block)

2.the block should be of 100% cotton fabric(quilting fabrics)

3.pre-wash all fabrics you will be using for the block to prevent shrinking and fabric color bleeding-the fabrics you use would be best if they were all cottons, however cotton blends are okay.

4. all blocks must be made to be washable

5.all blocks must depict the Bloomin Havanese-floral theme

6.blocks are due to me Feb.1,2011

7.you may use any technique you are comfortable with...such as hand applique, machine applique, pieced, embroidery, counted cross-stitch

8.No iron ons,lettering/decals

9.Be aware of embellishments --if I can't iron it please do not put it on there.Ironing plays a huge role in sewing/quilting

10.Please do not add any additional fabric for any reason to the back of your block. For help with making it easier to satin stitch (if you chose this stitch) I highly recommend a tear away stabilizer. This will give you the stiffness for sewing and can be torn away after stitching leaving less bulk and layers of fabric.

11. Please include a bit of PINK in your block...any shade of pink/any amount.

12.Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. HAVE FUN!

PLEASE INTIAL YOUR BLOCK and include either here on the forum, through a pm to me or along with your block when mailing the following: Your name,Your title for your block,Your inspiration for your block(a few sentences). This info is used for advertising of the finished quilt by HRI.

Just a reminder* Do not put your design too close to the edge or it will be caught in the seam allowance, unless it is a design element and you want it that way.

Please post if you are interested in making a block for this new quilt.

+VERY IMPORTANT+
When using fusibles----please only use "wonder under" or "Heat n Bond" LITE.

Please read the guidelines--but sage green has been chosen as the background color of all blocks and a requirement of a shade of pink. Any amount/any shade of pink.

I think this leaves the most creativity because it allows for all other colors of flowers to be used. Not just pastels, but brights, deep rich colors as well. Don't let the pink scare you. Most florals have a touch of pink and if not....your hav has a tongue that could be pink!

I will have a list of block makers on post 2 (since I was so long winded on post 1)

I think I will hold back this year and save my spot open for someone else who would like to give it a try! And if you are thinking of trying but think you 'can't do it'...trust me you can! And it's fun!
