Hi,
I am new to quilting and just discovered this project. Though I am not ready to commit to a block this year, I want to learn more about the project. How does it work? Where are the quilts shown? How can you try to win one and are there pictures of past year's quilts around for viewing? Thanks for filling me in.

I can give you some quick answers--
How does it work? Where are the quilts shown? Try to win etc.?

People sign up to make a block having voted on a theme and following the guidelines set forth on post 1. There is a deadline there that the blocks need to be sent to me. I sew the quilt together, take extensive pictures and collect information about each block and take it to a quilter and finish it. The photos and information supplied to me by the block maker is sent to a representative of HRI (havanese rescue) where they are used for promotional purposes. After I get the quilt back from the quilter-I finish it (whatever needs to be done) and send it to a designated person from HRI to take to the Havanese National Specialty where it is displayed, along with HRI's own quilt, to raise money for the havanese taken in from rescue.
During the advertising period it is promoted extensively to the havanese groups and will be right here as well. Generally speaking.....it is a free will drawing with a requested donation of 5.00 per ticket. A winner for each quilt is drawn at National. Winner need NOT be present to win. HRI contacts you and sends you the quilt if you are the lucky winner.

Yes--some quilts we have made are available for viewing here in the catagory we are in now. Also-all quilts are visible (our quilts and HRI's quilts) by going to havanese rescue's website and clicking on the quilt project link...follow it by year.

I already have my fabric, just wanting for my dvd to come in. I ordered a dvd to teach me how to applique, called piece o' cake. Have you heard of it Julie. I thought it would be easier to learn a technique if I could see it being done. I have two different designs in mind, which one to choose???

It's great to see some new members joining the quilt project.

Peace, Love & Havanese

No,I have not heard of that DVD but I'm sure it'll be fabulous! There are many many teaching tools out there-it is actually hard to know where to direct someone. Lots of newly discovered youtube videos have me learning new things too.

2 different designs huh? Uhm......I say make them BOTH! Can't go wrong with one of each and you know---there is no such thing as too many quilt blocks!
