This year's new quilt will be Hav ' N Fun .....
I think it'll be really really.....FUN!
Some of the Blocks that have rolled in
Hav'N'Fun is: fun things you do with your havanese such as agility, playdates, therapy visits etc. OR fun things YOU do that you can depict your havanese doing. Do you golf? How about a golfing hav? Gardening? Crochet? Cooking? Read a good book? Play a sport? What is it you do for FUN? These are all things absolutely perfect for this quilt!
We are an inclusive group and embrace everyone who wishes to make a quilt block. We encourage new people to the sewing/quilt world to be creative and join us!
If we have more blocks/volunteers then what will fit within the layout of the quilt-your block may/maynot appear on the quilt, but may be chosen to raise money in a different way (such as a pillow, tote, wallhanging etc.)to benefit our beloved breed, the havanese. Blocks will be placed within the quilt for an eye-pleasing look....not based on skill set. I prefer a good mix of styles and skills on our quilt.
Remember to keep it simple. Add your details as needed, but if you have too much going on you lose the focus of the block...the havanese.Aim for middle of the road.
1.we will be using a 10"x10" block(please cut slightly larger,as I will cut them when I receive the blocks) This block MUST contain a touch of yellow. Black or yellow backgrounds are NOT allowed. Please choose something else. This quilt will be set together with a yellow fabric.
2.the block should be of 100% cotton fabric(quilting fabrics)
3.pre-wash all fabrics you will be using for the block to prevent shrinking and fabric color bleeding-the fabrics you use would be best if they were all cottons, however cotton blends are okay.
4. all blocks must be made to be washable
5. all blocks must contain the hav'n fun theme
6.blocks are due to me Jan.1,2012
7.you may use any technique you are comfortable with...such as hand applique, machine applique, pieced, embroidery, counted cross-stitch
8.No iron ons,lettering/decals
9.Be aware of embellishments --if I can't iron it please do not put it on there.Ironing plays a huge role in sewing/quilting
10.Please do not add any additional fabric for any reason to the back of your block. For help with making it easier to satin stitch (if you chose this stitch) I highly recommend a tear away stabilizer. This will give you the stiffness for sewing and can be torn away after stitching leaving less bulk and layers of fabric.
11. Please include a bit of YELLOW in your block...any shade of YELLOW.
12.Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. HAVE FUN!
13. Our quilt project is on HF (havanese forum) and HT (havanese talk). Please be aware that we work together on this quilt project and any information/advice/pictures you may post could be used on either forum for sharing fun and educational purposes.
PLEASE INTIAL YOUR BLOCK and include either here on the forum, through a pm to me or along with your block when mailing the following: Your name,Your title for your block,Your inspiration for your block(a few sentences). This info is often used for advertising of the finished quilt.
Just a reminder* Do not put your design too close to the edge or it will be caught in the seam allowance, unless it is a design element and you want it that way.
Please post if you are interested in making a block for this new quilt.
When using fusibles----please only use "wonder under" or "Heat n Bond" LITE.
Because I will be monitoring both sites (HT and HF) it is only necessary to sign up for a block on one forum.
