Hats Off To Havanese! New Quilt 2010

This year's theme is Hat's Off To Havanese! It should be a very fun quilt to do.

Imagine a havanese in a hat,on a hat,chewing a hat,wearing a hat,peeking from under a hat etc. All things hats!

It can be any kind of hat----do a google search and look for all the cool hats and quirky styles! Many hats come to mind for me.....here is a quick list: top hat, bolero, cowboy, golf hat, sombrero, birthday hat, stocking hat, baseball, sunbonnet, praire style, easter bonnet there is no end to the many hats!

Please put your "thinking cap" on and join us for this fun quilt!
Link to the tutorial on fusibles (thank you Jocelyn!)

:Forum Quilt Guidelines:

1.we will be using a 10"x10" block(please cut slightly larger,as I will cut them when I receive the blocks) Some blocks will be 10"x24" please cut larger

2.the block should be of 100% cotton fabric(quilting fabrics)

3.pre-wash all fabrics you will be using for the block to prevent shrinking and fabric color bleeding-the fabrics you use would be best if they were all cottons, however cotton blends are okay.

4. all blocks must be made to be washable

5.all blocks must depict the hats theme with a hav of course!

6.blocks are due to me Feb.1,2010

7.you may use any technique you are comfortable with...such as hand applique, machine applique, pieced, embroidery, counted cross-stitch

8.feel free to ask me any questions you may have about techniques etc.

9.I want people to have fun and be creative!

10.The temptation will be strong to embellish and that is fantastic,however---make sure it is securely fastened and NO FEATHERS! Feathers are NOT machine washable. Do remember though a feather can be made of fabric!

PLEASE INTIAL YOUR BLOCK and include either here on the forum, through a pm to me or along with your block when mailing the following: Your name,Your title for your block,Your inspiration for your block(a few sentences). This info is used for advertising of the finished quilt by HRI.

Just a reminder* Do not put your design too close to the edge or it will be caught in the seam allowance, unless it is a design element and you want it that way.

Please post if you are interested in making a block for this new quilt. I have a different layout this year and I will be contacting people who in the past have make multiple quilt blocks for our quilt....I will be asking for them to make one larger block instead as per my new layout.

To give you a hint color wise---I am strongly leaning towards a RED quilt...a brick color red. Can you keep that color in mind when choosing your fabrics? Please do NOT use a red as a background color---only a small touch here or there if possible!
When using fusibles----please only use "wonder under" or "Heat n Bond" LITE.

I'm happy to make a couple of blocks again this year. Just tell me sizes. I've already got a few ideas. Now to see if I can implement them.

I'd like to try but I'm nervous, never done one before. Any helpful hints... Is it even doable for someone new???

Wooooohooooooo !!! What a great theme, Julie!

Is this where you'd like us to sign up for blocks? I'd love to make two blocks, if that's o.k., but don't want to hog anything. lol Let me know...
