General Lost Dog Info

I have a dear friend whose German Short Hair Pointer is missing in Madison, WI. it's been 24 hours and they are even afraid he might have been stolen.

Are there resources for people who are looking for lost dogs? Even a list of a plan of all the places you should look and be aware of?

I live in a small town and have been involved in looking for lost dogs here but I am not sure what resources there are in bigger cities.

I can't imagine the feeling of not knowing where your beloved pet is.

Thanks for any tips or advice!

My local SPCA has a lost dog info site, with lots of useful tips. It's worthwhile to familiarize yourself with what's available before it happens. Some even suggest making a "lost dog poster" on your computer with a photo and save a copy that's easy to print out in the future so you don't waste precious time making one when the dreaded happens (i haven't done this but does seem like a good idea). My city also has a "lost dog network" on facebook where people will cross post your info to get it out to as many people as possible.

Your friend should call every shelter, place ads in the paper, place ads online (craig's list etc), post photos on every local forum, newsgroup, facebook group, etc. Get the message out to as many people as possible.

I hope her dog turns up.

That's horrible. I just had a scare myself, but found my dog in the pantry....

I hope she finds him! She can also call the police.

Please keep us posted!

Thanks so much. I found some good info sites and gave her a lot of ideas.

I am hoping her dog is found.

(and I am glad your pup was just in the pantry!)

I am really thinking about making the "lost dog" posters for my Havanese and Tibetan
just to be prepared.
