Puppy food to adult food

My Lola is a year old today. When is the right time to make the switch to adult food and what is the best way to make the switch? What has everyones experience been?

you should do it over a 3 week period. i had to switch my pups food several times due to a food allergy and i have found that a change over in a 3 week period works best. some people might disagree.
you slowly add the new food as you minimize the old. i feed my dog a half a cup of food a day. i would figure out how many tablespoons are in the half cup. over a 3 week period i would figure out a schedule where i would remove one tablespoon old food and replace it with a tablespoon new food. you'd do this for a couple of days and then remove 2 tablespoons old food and add 2 tablespoons new. eventually, the new will out number the old and finally, by the end of 3 weeks, he's eating his new food. it's easier to chart it out on a piece of paper and leave it by his food bin. that way there's no second guessing yourself. the theory is that if you slowly introduce thenew food, you avoid diarhea and vomiting and constipation. their little bellies need time to adjust to anything new and if you do it too quickly you will have problems. hope this helps.

We switched MacGyver at 1 year. We tried doing it gradually -- mixing a little of the adult food with his puppy food, but as soon as he got a taste of the adult food he started picking that out and refusing the puppy food. Fortunately he didn't have any trouble making this quick switch!

I have a similar question...I'm thinking of changing to Fromm's but they don't have a puppy formula. Havee is 5 months old. Should I stick with a brand that has a puppy formula or do you think he'll be ok with it at this young age?

The guy at the pet store said that puppies just get a different amount of Fromm's than adult dogs. Isn't that the case of any food?

I just noticed that Fromms has a puppy gold food. But I've seen here that some of you use the chicken a la veg. and that isn't the puppy food. So is this ok for puppies?

Thanks!

Wow I switched my guys to adult food at 6 months, per my vet recommendation! We also did it gradually and we had no problems at all!

Kodi was eating a combo of adult and puppy, because of Shelby. They are both on adult food now. Shelby is 8 mos, her weight is good so she doesn't need the extra fat in the puppy food. I do add Missing Link to their food and sometimes olive oil (when I remember).
