Is a 1-pound gain in 4 weeks enough?

Took Mayzie today for her last ear check-up and the booster shot they had put off in the past. She is 16 weeks old and weighs 7 pounds. She has only gained 1 pound in the past 4 weeks...is that enough? It doesn't seem like very much for a puppy. And isn't this supposed to indicate she'll be 14 pounds as an adult?

Then they gave her the booster shot. She didn't cry or anything, and when I got her home she played with the other dogs before I decided to take a nap. I crated her, slept for an hour, and opened the crate. She came out of it really slowly, so I picked her up and she yelped like she was in agony. I put her down on my bed right away, and she wouldn't walk at all! I called the vet and he said not to worry unless it lasts a full day. I was able to carry her outside, and she did both of her businesses and walked a few steps, but no way was she walking all the way back into the house. I carried her in and put her in her ex-pen where she's just laying in her soft bed. So sad!

I have never had a dog act like that after a shot, and I feel so sorry for her! She still won't eat, either.

The vet said to return in 3 weeks for her rabies shot (she'll be 19 weeks). I will probably wait an extra week...20 weeks is what's recommended, right?

Leo was right about 7 lbs at 16 weeks and he ended up at 11.5 lbs. some of these pups grow quickly on the front end and stopped. Leo is the same height he was at 7 months and reached his adult weight by 10-11 months. I always go by the feel of the dog. Can you easily feel Mayzie's ribs but they nor her hip bones or spine feeling like there is no fat just skin over them. You don't want the hip bones or spine protruding. If the weight on her feels right then she may just be an early maturing puppy who did most of her weight gain earlier. Is she eating well, not throwing up or having diarrhea? Has she been thoroughly checked to be sure she doesn't have worms? Is she behaving like a typical energetic puppy? If you have concerns about any of these things you could have the vet give her a thorough physical. As long as she is doing well and is at a nice body mass for her size and is gaining some then she is probably fine.

Mochi was 5.1 lbs at 15 weeks, 6.5 at 18 weeks, 6.8 lbs at 20 weeks, and 8.0 lbs at 25 weeks so I guess that is normal. We did the 1st rabies shot a week after her last set of vaccines, around 18 weeks.

I personally don't like to do Rabies before 6 months.

As others have said, Havanese grow at very different rates. We were afraid Panda was going to be really big, but she's not. she's very moderate in size... right in the middle of the "preferred" range. We knew Kodi was on the large side, but none of us, including his breeder guessed he'd get as big as he did!

Oreo weighed 5.75 lbs. yesterday on his 16 weeks birthday. He needs to start packing it on to catch up with Mayzie!

Haha, Mayzie can be the linebacker and Oreo can be the quarterback.
