carsick puppy

Yesterday I took my 4 month old Cubby in the PetGear car carrier for a 20 minute ride in the car. He vomited sevedral times. Today I took him for a ride in the Snoozer Lookout (to determine if it was the previous car carrier that made him sick). Once again he got sick. Not sure what to do. I have researched on internet to see that benedryl, Conine, dramimine, or ceremia is an option. We are going to have to drive with him in a few days, so not sure what to do. Hoping he will grow out of this.

Rexy use to get carsick. I have used Rescue Remedy about 30 minutes prior to getting in the car as well as a few drops of peppermint essential oil and Digestzen essential oil blend both from Doterra on a fleece pad under his kennel. We just returned from the beach 4 hours both ways and he didn't get carsick.

Paddington used to vomit as well. He hasnt done so for at least 4 months now but he does still get car sick - excessive drooling etc. Try not to travel too soon after Cubby has had his breakfast and hold off on giving any treats beforehand. Depending on how he will be travelling in the car I would recommend bringing a couple of clean towels. Put one underneath where he will be secured in the car or in the bottom of his carrier. Dont forget some plastic bags to put any soiled towels in. Bring some water for him and possibly a small favourite toy that he can chew/try and take his mind off things.

I wouldn't give Cubby any medication unless you run it by your vet first. They may be able to advise on what is most appropriate and the proper dosage for him.

Both Scout and Truffles had a problem with carsickness when they were puppies. They would vomit and have diarrhea. 😧 It helps to take short trips in the car. I think they were around 10 months old when it finally stopped. Now if I open the car door they both come running and jump in. 😊

Reassuring that this may fade with time. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences. We will travel by car to the airport (40 minutes), then fly to California (4 hour flight). Four weeks ago he did great, with 1/4 benedryl so holding my breath with this recent issue with nausea.
