Bogey and his Squeaky Ball!

One cheap squeaky ball purchased as a stocking stuffer 13 months ago and still going strong. The problem is that this is the ONLY toy that Bogey the Bandit will play with. As you can see, there are times when his little black and white friend, Sir Jasper, takes it away. Mostly, though, it completely belongs to the Bandit. He loves this squeaky ball and carries it with him EVERYWHERE! If for some reason he doesn't have it with him, all I have to do is ask him "where is the squeaky ball" and he will run to get it! He squeaks it and rolls it and brings it to us to toss to him. Sometimes he likes for us to throw it so he can catch it in mid air and sometimes he likes to fetch it. However, if I ever throw it where Sir Jasper gets to it first, the Bandit will pout and not bring it back the next time he gets it. He is a bit of a sore loser.

He whines and cries over this ball if it is stuck in a place where he cannot get it. I know that if I hear him whining, he cannot get to his beloved squeaky ball. I have to ask him, "where is it?" and he will take me to it every single time. Usually, it is stuck under the couch or under a dresser or somewhere I have to get down in the floor and crawl around for...at which time Sir Jasper jumps between me and the ball trying to see what I am doing. I have to continually move Sir Jasper out of my way so that I can finally reach the ball. This happens multiple times per day. I have no idea what I am going to do if something happens to this squeaky ball. It is the only one they will play with.

He sure has you trained!

Raffy has a squeaky bone that he loves to squeak while doing zoomies. Sassy gets it sometimes and she likes to squeak it, but she hasn't figured out how to run and squeak at the same time yet. I would get a second one, but I'm finding out that whenever I get two of a thing for them, they end up "arguing" over one, while the other sits off to the side as if invisible.

We are also having some issues with fetch, but Raffy isn't so easily discouraged. It's just that it's turned into what we call "combat fetch". We throw, the dogs run, then it's tug-of-war. Sometimes we get the toy back to keep throwing, but other times Sassy wins the tug-of-war and books it into her crate with the toy. Although Raffy likes lots of different toys, he won't continue to play with a different toy when Sassy has the original toy in her crate. He just sits outside her crate and barks/whines at her.

As a grandparent, I have purchased a "back-up" for a beloved stuffed animal. Once when the original of a small rabbit went missing out of the house, I magically found it. The replacement was carefully examined and then accepted (i did scruff it up a little first).

With Cassie, I do the same, with a backup of her favorite squeeky ball. I let her play with the backup, then put it away so her scent will be on it (granddaughter's nose couldn't detect the new from old but she did a careful visual inspection). Of course, you never know in advance what will become the beloved and irreplaceable toy!! The original has gone missing and Cassie has forgotten where she left it (probably interrupted by one of her humans) and we have used the backup until original shows up.

Isn't it funny how they can become so attached to a certain toy? So cute!

Lovely pictures!
Becky's favourite toy is a reindeer she got for Xmas, it has a squeeker in its head but its too hard for her to squeek so she brings it to us to press.
It gets taken out in the garden for a 'mad run' most days but she never fails to bring it back indoors with her.

Boy is that a familiar story. I can relate to all of it. Very cute pics of the kids.

Ricky Ricardo, the boys would love to play with you. Be warned, however, that the Bandit may just push the squeaky ball into your face and continuously squeak it and then keep it away from you the way he does to Sir Jasper. I think it makes him feel superior.

Askavi, I have experienced "combat fetch" many times. My guys will also fight over the same antler even though I always give each of them one. It isn't that one is preferable to the other one because sometimes they will fight over one antler and the next time I give them out they fight over the other one. It's exasperating. We have a lot of Havanese-style MMA matches in our house. We call it the nightly Smackdown (the Bandit vs. the Ninja). It usually occurs just before and after a new squeaky ball tournament.

Cassandra, I sure wish I had purchased a second ball as a back-up but I had no idea they would love it so much. The thing is that they didn't really love it so much at first and it was well after the Christmas season was over before they decided it was the best thing EVER. They are like small children that way, I think. *sigh*

Jackie, it is hilarious! My husband and I laugh all the time over it.

Jilliow, my guys love to take stuff outside and run like the devil, too. It never takes Bogey long to find a squeaker in a toy; however, he quickly loses interest in favor of the beloved squeaky ball! However, Sir Jasper doesn't seem to care about the squeaking mechanism. He much prefers to simply destroy it.

Ollie, the funniest thing is when Sir Jasper gets in my way when I try to get the ball out from under the couch. It's like he is a little kid wanting to see what I am after.
