Puppy food and pictures

Miley is doing great at Mom and Dad's and I get to meet her in just a couple of weeks. I am counting the days.

Just wondering at what age do they usually move from puppy food to adult food? Also, how much food do they usully get each day. Right now she is getting half a cup of food, 2 times a day. She wolfes it down and then runs to Kayla's bowl to see what is there (parents dog). She gets a few treats but not much.

She is putting on about half pound a week and still gaining. 21 weeks old and just under 9lbs. I hope she slows down soon. Would love her to be somewhere between 10 - 12lbs, but the way she is going ...

The breeder said her parents were small, 8 and 9 lbs, but I am wondering.

It would be great if she styed within 'average' but no matter what I m so excited about meeting her and know I will adore her. I already do and I have only seen pictures.

Miley is adorable! We were told to switch Kodi onto adult food around his first birthday. Miley is eating much more than Kodi ever got, but she's growing really fast, and sure doesn't look fat in her pictures. She may just need the extra food. I'd be surprised if she ends up being a 10-12 lb. Hav at the rate she's growing. Kodi is about 16 lbs, and was about her size at her age. He has no extra weight on him, and is fit and muscular.

I just think there is more of him to love... We call him the "lap and a half" dog.

Adorable pictures!!

Gordo gets 3/4 cup twice a day and he ALWAYS goes to see what Mimi has left over. I put her in an ex pen so she can eat her food calmly as she takes her time and Gordo just wolfes everything down. He's learned to wait until she gets done and then they are off to play. Sometimes, I might give him a bit more food depending on how long of a lapse they've had between meals. He was 11 lbs at 4 mo, I think, though. Mimi eats about 3/4 cup total a day. I give her 1/2 cup twice a day, but she rarely finishes her portions. I was told to give them more during puppyhood and then give them smaller portions as adults.

Fergus will be 5 months old on the 20th of this month and I decided to weigh him this morning. Keep in mind he is on the bigger side He weighed in at 13lbs!! He gets 1/2 cup of Orijen Regional Red twice a day. In addition to regular meals, he also will get some healthy snacks throughout the day. I give him green beans, baby carrots, plain organic yogurt, bananas, and some doggy granola snacks. He is not overweight, he is nice and lean. He does have a large appetite, so I have to make sure he gets mostly low fat treats. He is very active and goes on at least 2 walks a day. So he gets plenty of exercise. Izzy and Fergus share the same Father, but have different Mothers. Izzy topped out at 16lbs. They are very different. Different personalities, coats, and sizes

Mine are 8 mos and 4 mos and both eat adult food. There is not much of a difference between puppy and adult formulas in most cases. I had no choice because Roscoe is allergic to chicken and I couldn't find a single puppy formula sans poultry.

The amount of food you should feed should be on the bag of dog food - there will be a chart with weight and age. Usually it will say something like 2-20 lbs, so you can feed somewhere in the middle of the suggested range. For example, if they suggest 1/4 to 1.5 cups per day, you can feed about a cup. From my experience, I would say that most people feed their puppies around 1 cup per day, and then reduce slightly as they get older.

As for your 10-12 lb hopes, you should probably let those go. Maddie was 12 lbs at 6 mos and is now 21 lbs. Roscoe is 8 mos and 10 lbs, he hasn't grown in over two months so I'm fairly sure he's done. Stella is 4 mos and 8.5 lbs...she is going to be a bigger girl (poor Roscoe!).
