Question Music for new puppy at night...helpful, calming, or not?

Hi All,

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with using soothing/calming music at night for a new puppy? Sounds can be stimulating, so I wouldn't want this to have the opposite effect and keep a puppy awake. I searched "music" on the forum and could not find any previous posts about this. I searched "puppy" on Amazon Prime's music stations and couldn't find anything there either.

Classical music or perhaps calming nature sounds-like ocean waves-with no animal sounds? I found a CD called "Sounds True Through a Dog's Ear, Volume 1, Music to Calm Your Canine Companion."

Here is a YouTube video with a sample of the above-stated CD:

As always, advice and insights would be most appreciated.

I used my sound machine on the heartbeat setting when I first brought my puppy home. She slept in a crate next to my bed. Personally I would not be able to sleep with music playing in my room. The heartbeat or nature sounds don't bother me however.

This is not something I'd start unless you plan to keep it up. Puppies adjust pretty quickly to new sleeping arrangements, no matter what they are, so there is no reason to complicate things. If your breeder is doing her job, she will have the puppy sleeping in a crate, alone, but near siblings and Mama, for a while before sending the puppy home anyway. None of mine (two different breeders) made a peep, from the first night, unless they needed to potty. Even that had faded away by the end of their first week or so at home.

No you don't need music at night. Humans make enough natural night noises : to reassure the puppy that you have not abandoned them if sleeping in a crate in your bedroom.
