new puppy's tail

In the pictures sent to us we noticed that the puppy's tail spins around like a helicopter but doesn't seem to rest on his back but rather hangs in mid air sort of backward when he's not excited. Is this a developmental stage or anomaly or something else? Maybe I'm paying attention too much but want to know everything about this breed..

Well, a Havanese tail isn't supposed to "rest on his back", though many do. It's hard to tell from your description what your puppy's tail is doing, but a tail that is going to be "correct" usually curves forward over, but not touching the back when the puppy is 8-12 weeks old. Much tighter than that, and it will probably be TOO tight as an adult. They should carry their tail curving forward when they are moving, but it is acceptable for them to drop their tail when standing still.

That said, unless you are planning to show the dog, tail set is really only cosmetic. It will not affect the puppy's "pet qualities" at all!
