update and question!!!!!!!!!

hey everyone, sorry for the long post, we just came back from cape cod with butterscotch!!! she had a great time. we took her for her first swim in the pond and at first she was scared but as soon as we went in she had to come and "save" us. she had this very serious look on her face and she swam to were we couldn't stand anymore. I was very surprised since I had heard that mostly havs don't like the water. we took her to the beach and she loved it, she dug in the sand and chased dogs that were four times her size! She had a bit of a panic attack when we went in the water, but she was won over by treats and praise. we went with friends sailing and she loved it!!! they had a bulldog aboard who she mainly ignored, but was an absolute darling. all in all she had a great time!!!!!!!
I also had a quick question: when we were at the groomers last we met another pup who was practicing to be a therapy dog. the groomer said that butters might be a good therapy dog. her puppy kindergarten place has therapy classes too. what is your take on this and do havs make good therapy dogs.

There are a number of therapy dogs in the group. I hope you'll hear from some of their owners. Sounds like Butterscotch had a wonderful time. Do you have any photos of the trip to share with us?

Sounds like you had a great trip with Butterscotch. Smarty and Galen never come it the water on their own when we are at the lake. I could be going down for the 3rd time and they would not think coming in to help. LOL
Many of the dogs on the forum are therapy dogs, you might search for that subject to see how they went about it.

Sounds like a great trip - so glad Butterscotch loved the water. We haven't ever tried Abby but my DH thinks she wouldn't like it. Many forum members have Havs that love the water, though. I hope you have some some trip pictures to share!

Yes, Havs make great therapy dogs

And Gucci LOVES the beach, sand and boating too. She really loves being on a boat and I always try to take her with us when we charter or go on one, I think the sand and smells are so new and fun to them and they seem to like running like hell in the sand, must be the density that gives them more *bounce* and air/hang time?? lol

Sounds like a great trip!! I love taking my girl on vacation with us

We took Lilly to the beach at Provincetown in July but she wanted nothing to do with the water. She would run away from the waves like a kid. What beach did you go to? I've been trying to figure out where the dog friendly ones are.

We had Brady and Dugan in Cape Cod in the beginning of August. We go every year. The boys love to swim (Cassie stayed homw with my Mom). My boys are afraid of the ocean though. I think it sounds too much like thunder when the waves crash. We took them to Nickerson everyday to swim though.

Glad to hear that you and Butterscotch had a great time!

Isn't the Cape for bringing your dogs with you on your vacay?! We go every year, and we are heading there on Sept 5th (if Hurricane Earl doesn't spoil our plans). It is so pet friendly. We usually go to Provincetown or Truro. Kodi and Shelby aren't crazy about the beach, I think the waves scare them. But we take them to the bay and they have so much fun. There is also a great dog park in Ptown, and most restaurants with outdoor seating allow dogs.

As for the therapy dog thing, I am sure someone here will be able to give you some info. I think there are quite a few.
