Changing Pine Pellets

Our new puppy Maggie will be here this Saturday. We've purchased most everything and are getting things set up this week. We will be crate training and have her ex pen with vinyl flooring underneath. We are going to use the Richell Paw Trax Mesh Training Tray and use the pine pellets instead of the pee pads. How often will we need to change these out? I was thinking daily although we'll be taking her out for most pottying. Just wondering what schedule those of you who use these have used. Thank you!

It's REALLY easy to see if the pellets have been peed on, because when they get wet, they puff up and turn into sawdust. I remove any wet spots daily when the dogs are puppies, but I really never change ALL the litter, because if it's still in pellet shape, it hasn't been touched. I use the teeny "dust pan and brush" meant for sweeping crumbs off a table cloth. This is sort of what I use, but this is MUCH too much to pay for them. I get them at the dollar store:

As the dogs get older, and use the boxes less, I clean it less. I check mine about ones a week now with all mature dogs, and I MIGHT find one or two spots where the pellets have been wet. Because they COMPLETELY absorb odor, there is no smell at all. I have to lift the grates to see if they've been peed on. Obviously if they poop on it, (which, around here, only happens in rally bad weather!) that sits on top, and I pick those up as soon as I see them. And then we have the funniest procession to the toilet, tails wagging, while I flush it down and tell them what wonderful dogs they are. LOL!

You will want to get two of the trays, so you will have a clean one ready to do down while the other one is being washed.

OK, I'll pick up a couple of those dust pan/brush sets. Sounds good!

Yes, we do have 2, so I hope we're ready! Thanks!
