Introducing puppy to my dog....

What are some tips to introduce a puppy to my dog. My dog is Daisy, she is three years old and queen of her castle. She has more dominate traits. We are getting a laid back little boy, I hope he just lets her rule the roost.
How should I introduce them for the first time. And what should I expect.
We just lost our older dog, so Daisy is used to another dog being around. She loved Piper so much, but I am just nervous that she won't take to the new puppy. What is your advice?

The rule of thumb is usually to introduce them off your property, one takes the current pup for a walk, and you come with the puppy on a leash. Let them interact and then walk home together with them.
Since I have so many, I do my introductions outside in the yard. Laila came home on Friday and 2 of mine still wont even come in the room with her - it just takes time.
Good luck.

I know the conventional wisdom is to introduce them on neutral territory but with each new addition of mine, since I had no other choice, was to bring the new puppy in the house, let it explore a little when it first came out of the crate, then put it in an ex pen where the others could observe without harming the little one. When the baby was out with them (only when I was very close by) they sniffed like crazy.

I would say, with most of them, it took anywhere from a week to two to be integrated into the family, each one finding his own place in the hierarchy. Good luck with yours.

We introduced our two outside in the garden, Dizzie our older dog was very interested in Nellie, she wasn't so fussed, but after a while you could see that he was thinking, that was fun but she can go home now.Dizzie seemed to be a little depressed for about a month after she arrived, although we had no real problems.Even now three and a half months on, Dizzie has times when he just want's Nellie to leave him alone, but other times they have great games, and lots of RLHing.
We gave Dizzie lots of extra treats and he was allowed to sleep on our bed, and still is! Where as Nellie is not allowed on the bed,but we make sure she has just as much love. She is the most loving little pup.So good luck with your two, I'm sure everything will be fine it just takes a little time and patience.
