It's started..........

Hendrix started humping Chi-Chi this morning. Hubby has texted me twice as if I can do something about it I'm wondering if she will stop him if it bothers her or if we should separate them? She's more than twice his size but he's very persistent.

Bingo is 7 months old today. He has tried humping Mitzi in a half playing manner and she just moves away or gives a small growl and he stops. If he attempts to hump a cushion or toy I tell him NO, take the item away for a while and do something to distract him in a positive manner (like a few commands he knows with treat rewards). If he gets persistent with Mitzi and she doesn’t stop it I will interfere and tell him NO. I consider it part of learning good manners, just like not peeing in the house and not barking at the mailman. No humping allowed. Zero tolerance.

Ci

Dogs will be dogs. They all do it. You can set the rules for your household. We don’t allow humping humans or humping each other on our bed. Otherwise, we let them play. If one doesn’t want the other’s attention, they are pretty good at letting each other know.

Scout occasionally tries this with Truffles. She turns around and gives him her attack growl. That's the end of it. 😊

Kosmo humps Zoey, Zoey humps Kosmo and Joy is neither humped nor humps. I just consider that reticence proof that a well bred dog is different.

Seriously, they obey the nah nah when I give it and cease and desist the humping. I am also of the belief that it is normal dog play.

No humping of people or items so far.

Last night I was able to re-direct him pretty easily and thankfully he hasn't tried people or furniture. I've noticed that it happens usually when they are already wrestling so I guess excitement is what drives him. Chi-Chi so far hasn't participated, just gives him the brush off and walks away. Hubby is the only one it upsets LOL

Hate to tell you, but that has NOTHING to do with being a "well-bred dog"! LOL! If dogs didn't have a natural inclination to "practice" sexual behavior... which IS what they are doing, how would we get well-bred dogs? I certainly wouldn't want a breed that needed everything done artificially.

I think (I hope for you!) the biggest reason Joy hasn't entered into it much is that she is an immature female.

I thought it was because she was the Queen and Zoey and Kosmo were the silly peasants. Your insight is very disappointing.

Don't listen to Karen, your dog will not hump if he or she is high fa-lute-in, like Joy.
