Question How To Use a Kong??

I'm confused. We bought a kong for Amelia and lots of information I've found says to stuff it with peanut butter and freeze. However, other sources say not to do this as peanut butter is not good for dogs in this quantity. I need some kind of toy, or suggestion of what to stuff the kong with, in order to give Amelia some mental stimulation and occupy her time. Thanks for the help!

I use Kongs for my girls (I haven't with my Havanese yet), I don't fill it totally. I spread some around the walls of the hole, a light covering, but not enough to add too many calories to their day. I have heard that some have used applesauce to fill them and others have used canned cheese (?). Hope this is of some help.

You can use cream cheese, yogurt, kibble, whatever you want. I would adjust the amount by only smearing an appropriate amount of the yummy stuff in there. You can put her meal in there if she eats kibble so that it takes her longer. How you use it is really up to you. I've even put a teaspoon of yogurt in it and frozen it so that it takes him awhile to get it out when I leave the house.

You can also use just enough peanut butter (or applesace or yougurt...) to make plain old kibble stick together better so it stays inside the Kong. It's also more of a treat that way than plain kibble would be.

I would definitely not fill the entire Kong with peanut butter. Loose kibble bits or that mixed with peanut butter--terrific idea there!--won't upset the dietary balance.

I fill it with kibble and then put just enough peanut butter accross the top to seal it in. I have the really small one.

django doesn't like peanut butter (imagine that!) so i stuff it all the way with turkey. it keeps them busy for a very long time. just take small pieces at a time and smoosh it all the way in the kong. the vest thing about it is that you can run it under the sink to clean it. also, i use the round balls with the opening on the top. i put treats in there and he has to roll the ball and pick it up and throw it to get the treats out. great as well.

I use the samll Kongs for my dogs and stuff it with the Kong Ziggies. I push them all the way to the bottom and just a bit of it sticks out. Once they eat that, they have to work very hard to get at the piece left in the Kong. Mine don't like peanut butter, either.
