Coco the great escape artist

Hope everyone had a great new year! Coco is 6 months old now. She is learning so much - including how to escape from her Gooby Choke-free X harness. When we go on walks she will stop, pull backwards and duck her head low so that the harness slips over her head like taking off a sweater. We had one terrifying moment when she ran away from us but my daughter was quick to yell “CHICKENNN!!! LIVERRR!” And Coco came back after finishing a loop around the house. It was scary!

We are going to continue practicing recall but I am wondering if there is a better harness we should get? Please give your advice!

Here are some recent photos!

Try a clip on the front type harness, it can’t be backed out of, prevents pulling while walking and I find it easier to put on coats and other ‘clothes’ over it. Also there is no pressure on the neck, it is all on the shoulders and armpit area, however, the design really is conducive to no pulling/pressure at all. When the dog pulls, it’s body gets turned to the side which curtails moving forward, so they simply stop doing that.

I have heard so many stories about little escape artists but my Hav has never even tried to escape his harness so I have to admit the image of the scenario is hysterical to me. Of course, he HAS managed to dash outside a couple of times, so I do understand the scare. I’m sure someone will post a harness suggestion. I should probably pay attention because as I’m saying my dog hasn’t tried to escape his harness, I’m remembering we just started latching one of our puppy gates for the first time because it’s hard to open even when it ISN’t latched so everyone was complacent about it - but just a few weeks ago he figured out how to push on it just right! Who knows what he’ll try next week
