All puppies find their way into trouble. It's not all bad, if you can keep a sense of humor
It's been raining non-stop for the last, oh 20 hours or so here in Phoenix. I here they're getting 2-3 feet of snow in Flagstaff. The storm has delivered 2-3 inches of rain here in Phoenix-Chandler. Sometimes it's come down very hard.
Murphy is in the midst of potty training. We've had a couple of no-mistake days, but only a couple so it's considered a work in progress. Because of that, and his lack of cooperation in the yard, I was keeping him in his kennel until I could get him to go outside. At 10 o'clock last night it was really coming good, and I even tried paper on the patio to get him to relieve himself so I could go to bed. No dice, so into the kennel and I went to sleep on the couch until such time as I could get him to go.
Apparently, I didn't get the hasp in the loop, so the kennel door wasn't closed completely. I heard my wife stirring upstairs an hour or two later, I looked over to an empty kennel and figured he'd made his way upstairs. We don't usually close the gate to the stairs when he's in his kennel.
So, she takes Murphy outside on the patio with no success. Of course not, I'm thinking to myself. A) it's still pouring buckets and 2) (homage to Home Alone) there's a puddle somewhere here in the house.
I own a black light for hunting scorpions and a regular flashlight and searched high and low, all corners, upstairs and downstairs. Behind closed doors, I don't know why. I couldn't find it. So I switched with my wife to shiver in on the patio with the dog, while she hunts. She can't find it either, so I look again.
To make a short story long, I never found the puddle, yet. It's there, somewhere, mocking me. Hiding in a corner, a shoe, or in plain site. Daring me to slip on the tile or squish into the rug, or raise its aroma with some new guest to the house.
Murphy slept, comfortably well the rest of the night with only a 6 count squirt in the morning instead of his usual 12 count. It haunts me; where are you, Puddle?!
