Refuses to go outside

Hello All!

So the love of my life, Sasha-Bear will not go outside today. So, back story. I live in Co and it's definitely been raining A LOT lately. Normally, we take her into the garage at my house when it's wet. But we are staying at my friend's house. She went out yesterday while it was raining at my work, but for some reason she will not cross the threshold at my friend's house to go potty. Plus, today the grass is dry and I picked her up and showed her but she still won't go out there. Has anyone else dealt with this? Anything that helps?

It is a Havanese thing. They hate rain and wet. Snow however is fun. I would just pick her up and put her down where you want her to go and be very encouraging. Happy, happy voice lots of good girls and positive reinforcement (treats).

That's so funny! I totally forgot to mention that but, I thought it was so odd that she loved the snow but would not go in the wet grass lol thanks for all your help 💜

Haha, welcome to the wonderful world of Hav. They will keep you laughing and wondering what is going on inside that little brain of theirs.

I have no suggestions. There are times when I would love Loki to use his pee pad but he insists on going outside. He will go out in a monsoon! He couldn’t care less if he gets wet. Mama would prefer he stay dry but He will only use his pee pad if we aren’t home.

Mine loves to go outside in the snow but hates to pee in it. If it hasn’t snowed in a while he’ll flop himself down on it. Rain isn’t usually a problem but wind sometimes is. He’ll go to the edge of the yard and sniff a lot and then return to the door without going. I follow the advice of carrying him out, choosing a spot, and just telling him to “go potty.” It saves a lot of time that would be otherwise spent exploring the weather. Not that exploring the weather is bad, but when it’s still early and I’m not dressed for it yet, or we’re on our way out the door, it’s nice that he has “go potty” down!

Also, I don’t know if she’s still pretty little but I had a really hard time getting my puppy to go potty away from home and especially away from grass until he was at least 6 months. He preferred to hold it. It always took longer and I had to plan for it, because he needed longer to sniff everything out. but I still made a point to take him potty frequently when we were out, even if he didn’t go every time. I still look for grass when I take him away from home because he’ll go the fastest in grass. The bright side of being a little particular about potty is that I don’t have to worry about him going potty somewhere embarrassing at someone’s house or while we’re out!

She might just need a little more time to get comfortable before doing her business!

When it is very hot, Cassie won’t pee except in a shady area of our lawn. She will stand on the edge, and then scamper over to one of the places out of the sun...Havanese can be picky about where they go to bathroom! If it is raining, she carefully walks next to the side of our house under the overhang so she won’t get wet and then ventures out into the grass and does her business as close to the edge as she can. Think of the brainpower she is using to make her bathroom effort more pleasant for her.

Oddly, she also seems to like peeing on artifical turf. A couple of our neighbors have some and she seems to like to stop on their lawns on our walks.
