My drop it training has been going well. Oliver will drop whatever kid toy or paper etc he’s gotten into for a treat no problem. But the little stinker now simply gets into more stuff to get more treats! I can tell because rather than sneaking away with whatever he parades around in front of me lol
Oh I about died laughing imagining this! I can definitely see mine doing the same thing. Now that he isn’t a puppy anymore my kids aren’t as vigilant at putting away their shoes (which I miss!). He doesn’t chew on them or destroy them, thankfully, but he’ll pick up a shoe, stand right in front of you, shake it ferociously, and then just wait. It’s the same thing, but he’s waiting for us to trade for a toy and play with him, lol. I have no doubt he’ll quickly make the connection between “drop it” and a treat, I’ll have to make sure I’m extra prepared if we start prioritizing it again.
It’s kind of a hard one for me to remember to work on because I like using him as an excuse for my kids to keep stuff off the floor. “Put your art stuff away, puppy will get into it,” or “Loop up those lightning cables, the puppy will chew on them.” I hope my kids don’t realize anytime soon he’s not really doing those things anymore.
