Microchipping for $39?

I somehow found this while browsing Craigslist for any possible things that Ceylon might need: http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/pet/2242663968.html. Cey doesn't need his second set of shots for another 2 weeks and I am of course not going to rush his schedule in order to save a few bucks on his shots, but I would like to get him microchipped as soon as possible, and from what I hear, it can cost $90 or more to get it done at the vet's. This organization, LuvMyPet.com looks very legit, and they are offering microchipping for $39 at clinics in the Seattle area this Saturday.

Thoughts?

P.S., it does say that that price includes lifetime registration...

I am not sure if I have welcomed you - if not, Welcome to the forum! And sorry I am late.

Did you check with your vet to actually see what the cost was? We are in Longview. It was around $60 here at our vet's office for the microchip. It looks like these clinics are being held at Petco, so probably OK. However, I know nothing about LuvMyPet, but Craigslist makes me a bit nervous. I guess I am a suspicious sort! I have not seen how they actually put in a microchip (Augie had his done at the time of his neuter), but I think it is with a big needle and would they just go from dog to dog to dog with the same needle at these clinics? Have no clue.

Thanks - no, I haven't asked yet - I will call our vet tomorrow and get a price; if the price is not that much different, I may decide to wait.

I may be naive, but I was just assuming that they would for sure sterilize the needle in between giving the 'shots' of microchips; if they don't, of course I would not do it this way, but as far as I can tell this organization looks pretty legit, meaning I think they would do it the right way (I will make sure, before I subject Ceylon, of course!) Thanks for making me think of this!!

Welcome to the forum! Ceylon is adorable!

I'd say its legit as its being held at a Petco. I definitely don't think Petco would allow shady business practices as reusing a needle as they have a reputation to uphold. So I think you're all good!

Thanks! It seemed a little bit too good to be true, so I wasn't sure... I will still call my vet tomorrow but if everything still seems good by Saturday, I will definitely be taking Ceylon in to get microchipped

There's a low-cost place in NC that does microchipping for $25. A great deal!

the clinics are usually held by certified vets, here in Ca it is $39 also $60 at the vet office. Talk to you vet about waiting till the shots are done, usually administered in the same spot.

It was only $39 for Kodi to be microchipped by my vet. They did it while he was asleep for his neuter.

That sounds like a good idea to have it done during the spay/neuter so they don't have to experience any pain. I think that's what I'll do with our new little guy.

Heather, in case I haven't done it before
