OMG we got a puppy today!!!

Hi Everyone, I wanted to introduce you all to Kipper, he is our new black/tan Hav boy. I wasn't planning on getting a puppy till June but he and his brother (a tri-color Hav) showed up at a shelter by our home and I just couldn't resist.
Anywho I have been reading as many of the posts as I can over the past few months, man can I just say this is one ADDICTING forum, and need to know how I can start litter box training the puppy? I know that Tom King does this with his puppies and was wandering if anyone could give me tip on how to do that. The puppy (have to remember to call him Kipper-lol) has adjusted really well so far in te 3 1/2 hours that we have had him home, my other dog LOVES him and the cat only hissed and hit him once
I have had a puppy before so i know what it takes to potty train and house break (as in I won't chew up all of mom's shoes and clothes) and beleive that the other dog will help teach Kipper the house rules (even the one that she pretends to obey and as soon as my back is turned gets on the furniture anyway).
Well I was feeling the need for a new baby since my youngest is 8 and no longer in the cuddly phase so I guess I got one whether I am ready for it or not-lol. I am ordering an X-pen tonight so it will be delivered next week and am going to TRY to keep his cage/kennel in the kitchen during the night. My daughter really wants to let him sleep in her bed with her but I think he needs to be potty trained first-he can learn to break that rule soon enough.
What an exciting and exhausting time that we have instore for us

You are in for an exciting and occasionally frustrating time with your adorable little fur baby. I hope your first night goes well. Kipper is a cutie pie and I'm sure he'll keep a smile on your face.

There is no doubt that this place is addicting. I got here in April of 2007 and here I am, still going strong.

The rest of your family is equally adorable. Welcome to the wonderful world of havanese.

Welcome Shelly and Kipper (as well as everyone else in your full, happy household!) How old is your new baby! Good luck tonight! When Yogi was a baby and came home, I put her kennel in the spare bedroom, by herself. She never did adjust to sleeping alone in her kennel. This time, with Baby Boo, I put her kennel on top of a table beside my bed. Everytime she cried, I put my fingers thru the door grate, and she would stop crying. It was a long nite of putting my fingers in and out of her crate, but ever since that night, she has been so wonderful about sleeping in her crate. As a matter of fact, a little bit ago, she was wimping around below her crate (I'm sitting on my bed with the laptop...as the boyfriend is watching basketball in the livingroom). I set it down on the floor...she crawled in. I set it back ontop of the table...she is now asleep in her kennel) I'm tellin' ya...compared to how Yogi was...this is amazing! Just another idea, in case you have a difficult night...

Shelly and family.I wonder how Kipper's colour will turn out, these Havs are amazing the way they trick us with their coat colourings! Our Havs get along very well with our cats[we have 2 Havs and 4 cats]and play together, and sleep together. As you know you are in for a fun time with your new pup and existing family. Not everyone has a hard time potty training, but Havs can be tricky compared to other breeds, they seem to take a little longer, but you get there in the end.Well done for posting pics so quick, please keep them coming!

Welcome to the group!! I'm happy that Kipper found you and got out of the shelter. He is a cutie pie and I know you are going to love this breed. Hav's are smart and I know that guy will learn the rules fast...and make you laugh a lot during the process. Yes this forum is addictive and I hope you enjoy and post often....and we are addicted to pictures and you have started out doing a good job...just keep it up, please.
