Puppy Kindergarten Class Show-off

Today Eva had her third class and she is definitely being a show-off in the smarts department

Today's lesson was a continuation of sending your dog to bed and telling them to stay there until you release them. Last week we got to the point that I could tell Eva to stay and walk around the store, come back, and she would still be staying in her bed. The trainer said that was really good for her first time learning this skill but she was also the only dog in class that day so no distractions lol.

Today there were four other dogs in class. The trainer had us go first to demonstrate to everyone else what they had missed last week. We managed to get to the point where we'd tell her to stay, I'd leave the room, walk around the store, reenter the room, give all the OTHER dogs in class treats first, and then release her. I couldn't believe she stayed the whole time! I had another student in class ask me if I could train her dog

This is my first dog (my family were always cat people and didn't get a dog until after I went to college) so I feel so lucky that Eva is responding well to training. Do you think she'd be a good candidate to train for the Canine Good Citizen certification?

Thumbs up

Congratulations. Best thing you could do is these classes. It's all about socializing, learning and above all having fun. By all means go for whatever you feel you'd both enjoy. The stay is a difficult cue to learn young. She is a wizz.

I think both you AND Eva would be good candidates for further training! (though I think ALL dogs benefit from further training)

But don't thin k of CGC as an end point... That's just the start! Then consider a sport, whether it's obedience, rally or agility, or even nose works!

I really wish we had taken video today. Her breeder had said she thought Eva might be difficult to train because she was definitely the most strong-willed of the litter and she's just doing great!

Eventually I really want to do agility training with her. She already loves jumping over obstacles around the house and running through a tunnel thing we have for our cats on her own so I think I can definitely harness that in her for competition
