Question Could You Be On the Lookout?

I have decided not to purchase a Havanese from a breeder. Instead I want to get one from a rescue/pound. I saw one on a site but it was already adopted.
I was wondering if you guys could be on the lookout for Havanese pups that are up for adoption?

I live near Nashville, TN and can drive 3-4 hours(one way) if need be!

Anthea

P.s Before anyone says it- I know chances are slim of finding a puppy. But it isn't impossible!

A was also going to suggest Havanese Rescue. They usually have dogs being fostered in the Atlanta area. That would be a good place to start.

If you are on Facebook, there is a site called Save A Dog, sponsored by trupanion pet insurance. You can search for Havanese by age using your Zipcode. Although there is no baby currently that is purebred Havanese, there are some young dogs listed.

On the web, you can try Adopt-a-Pet at http://www.adoptapet.com/dog-adoption, sponsored by Purina. You can search once or set it up to be notified when a match is found for your criteria. Right now there seem to be a lot of Havanese puppies available across the country, but there may be three relatively close to you in Celina, OH.

The explanation: "3 brothers , we were getting older ended up in this great place in order to find us new homes and great families. please contact [email protected] for more info " Apparently, they take in breeder surrenders among others. Their pictures are adorable.

Also, you can try www.Petfinder.com There are lots of Havanese [and Hava mixes] listed.

@Laurie and Kathie: I've looked at Havanese Rescue, the ones you guys are linking, before. I would love to adopt through them but all the dogs I see on their website are a lot older. My family all agree that a dog under or at a year old(a puppy or near puppy) is best for our family.

@StarrLhasa: I found the puppies you spoke about. Their adorable. I sent an email. I'm afraid that unless they are willing to meet up, which I doubt, I won't be able to get one of them. It's 6 and a half hours-one way-from where I live .

I know that there are some Havanese in foster in North Carolina right now but they are all older dogs. I think if you really want a puppy you'll probably want to go through a reputable breeder. Thankfully Havanese puppies seem to mostly end up in homes rather than being abandoned

You might want to consider sending in an application to HALO (Havanese Rescue League). They just rescued 11 Havanese from a puppy auction yesterday. I don't know the ages but I'm sure there are some puppies. The dogs won't be ready for adoption for a few weeks and I don't know if any will be in your area, but you could get the process going by putting in an application now.

Thank you all for the links and such!

I wanted to adopt but- we found a breeder wanting to retire that isn't too far! She also has a super cute boy hav(puppy). So we're going to get him! In fact, we'll most likely get him on the 9th!
It all is coming about so suddenly and... nicely. After months of waiting and hoping to find the right havanese boy, we have found him . I'd been praying about it all.

The entire family is super excited.
I think I'll name him Jellybean. Not positive yet, since we haven't been around him a lot. I'll start a new thread with pictures as soon as we get him.

Again, thanks. I feel bad about posting this thread and then all of a sudden turning to a breeder. But this breeder was/is a kinda special thing(retiring and all).

We found Kipper on petfinder.com almost 3 weeks ago at a no kill shelter 2 hours from our home. Sadly there are a lot of Havanese puppies and adults on there-I would suggest that you check it everyday because it is updated all the time.
