Smile SEDA @ 15 weeks :)

Hey all!!
Well, our baby girl has officially been with us for 4 weeks now
Her personality is really starting to blossom and with that the expected puppy antics and "naughtiness"..haha! She is active, active, active!! We hardly have to entertain her as she def. entertains us.
Current issues...car sickness has just reared its ugly head she did fine the first few trips we took her on, but the last couple of trips (as short as 20min.) have resulted in vomiting. She does not appear at all anxious or nervous in the car. She willingly goes into her crate in the back seat, though she will whine a little off and on. I have searched forum threads on this topic and I will start trying some of the suggestions.
Nipping/biting while playing...we are working on this. It is pretty benign right now...never aggressive...but def something we want to address now before it escalates.
Finally, it's awfully hard to discipline when she is so darn cute!!!!

Hi, and congrats! Seda is beautiful! I don't know what to tell you about the car sickness - I started taking Cey in the car with us everywhere that we could go since we got him, and he does just fine, but every dog is different. I hope that somebody can give you good advice for that!

I can't advise for the nipping/biting either. But I CAN TOTALLY relate to the 'TOO CUTE TO DISCIPLINE' issue!!! omg, I've recently tried to 'crack down' since Cey is just right at that age, and I DON'T want him to grow up to be an undisciplined dog... but in doing so I have realized just how much I have let him get away with since I got him lol!!!

What a cute little doll! Enjoy puppyhood..it goes by so darn fast! Mine gets carsick too...have tried everything and even meds from the vet didn't work.I continue to take her on short trips to see if she will eventually get used to it.

Lizzie suffers from car sickness. I bought a car seat for her and it has helped. I also bought a Thunder Shirt, but have not used it yet. She is now a year old and I have to say it is getting better. She now drools more than throwing up.

I wanted to add that maybe the back seat is the issue. We would put Lizzie in the front and she got sick. I put the doggy seat on the console between the two front seats and it has helped a lot. It has a hook that I clip to her harness to buckle her in. She gets excited to ride to the bus stop and when ever I leave the house she wants to go with me. The breeder even told me when we drove her home that they have a tendency to get car sick.

At training class they told me to take her on short enough rides that she does not get sick and gradually increase the time and stop and walk around and then continue on. The trainer we had swears by these Thunder Shirts. I bought it and put it in a drawer and forgot about it. I now have it in her seat so it is there.

I appreciate the tips :)

This week, on my days off, I will try the "short" car rides and see what happens. Since she does not appear anxious about the car, I want to make rides a fun thing so she doesn't start to feel it is a negative thing. It seems to me that the meds out there have a sedative component and I do not want to be sedating her every time we run out! I have heard about the Thunder Shirt from my cousin who fosters/rescues dogs. She too is i big fan of the shirt, but I believe it provides a calming effect which would be fine if anxiety is the cause of the vomiting. However, if the vomiting is because of true motion sickness I imagine the shirt would not provide relief :/ We'll see how it goes....

Oh Seda is a beauty...If you look at Kirby's pics here you will see why I am so taken with her....Brings back so many memories of 8 years ago...ALREADY! Went too fast, that's for sure.

Kirby never experienced car sickness but has always traveled in a crate in the back seat. I have heard some horror stories about precious dogs and airbags so have always protected him with the crate. I would love it if they would create a crate for a smaller dog where he/she could see out the window and enjoy the ride but still be protected if that side airbag deploys. That would be perfect!

I wish I could give you some good advice about the carsickness, but luckily for us and Kirby, he has never experienced this. A lot of other things, yes, but not this.

When he used to nip when he was tiny, we'd gently say, "No bite"...he'd look up...get a tiny treat, praise and it stopped after about 6 or so tries. Just "no bite" worked after that until he grew out of it. Maybe that might work.

Enjoy this wonderful time with Seda...oh I love that name!

Reenie
