Great vacation, except no puppy!

My husband and I just got back from celebrating our 25th in Montreal. It was absolutely great - except I missed Marvin! Really, I started to worry about myself. I decided to not mention his name more than once a day, or I'd drive my husband crazy. Not very romantic.

Marvin stayed with friends who are also longterm dog sitting a Vizla. At first I was really worried- the Vizla was very wild and rough with poor little Marvin. I even called home once we got there to make sure things were settling down, and they were. When we returned home, they were best of friends! I think Marvin got a little wilder, too, keeping up with his new friend. When we got to our house, he remembered our house and how to ring the bell on the back porch. He ran around like crazy playing with all his toys for about an hour. He got lots of kisses from me. I'm nuts.

Oh my- I can relate too. We went to England last year and called our pet sitter 3 times and talked about our boy (only one pup then) at least every hour. This year we took them on vacation with us.... we figure we can do local vacations and take them until the dollar is stronger again...

I'm glad I'm not alone!!! It is much more fun to go to our family cottage where we can take him. Although my husband was probably glad to get me alone for awhile!

Gee, I kind of hate to admit it but we've never taken a vacation without the girls. All of our vacations in the past 3 years have been road trips to various places; Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Tahoe. All of our trips have included McKenna and Sedona. We're going to San Diego at the end of the month and the girls will camp right along with us.
I don't want them sleeping alone in the house at night, even with neighbors checking on them several times a day and we won't kennel them. That leaves their breeder, but it seems like such an imposition to leave two of them with her even though I know she wouldn't mind. I can rent videos of Ireland, England and Scotland, but a cruise would just be heavenly. (You'd think a ship with a poop deck would allow dogs!! I guess that's the Navy, huh?)

We have never boarded our girls either. For shorter trips, they go with us or a friend will stay at our home. When we went to Japan/Costa Rica we took them up to my in-laws farm. They love that place! Although Dora quickly learned barn cats don't run but turn around and swat! With the pending move, we are just going to have to take dog friendly vacations!

Susan, I am with you, we have never been on a vacation without the pups. It is like bringing stollers, car seats, daiper bags, cribs & all , just like kids. But so worth it!! That is a great idea about the cruise, I LOVE to cruise - it would be so neat if someone had a ship for animals.

Unfortunately all of our family members live in other states so we can't leave them with "grandma or Aunties" unfortunately. None of our neighbors have children old enough to stay overnight. One neighbor said she'd spend the night at our house but that's quite an imposition and I'm sure her hubby would be none too pleased..! Oh well, we can sacrifice for the girls!

Ha ha!

We haven't gone anywhere without the dogs yet either, which is funny because DH and I used to travel quite a bit. Now I travel and take one or more of the dogs and he stays home or he goes off and I stay home with the dogs. The trip to Denver is going to be the first time we've left any of our dogs behind and we've split them up to stay with different people. We still aren't going dogless though... Piaget has to come visit everyone at the National.

Wow, I can't imagine how mine would act if I split them up. They are quite bonded to each other. When I take one for a walk or to the vet the other whines and cries.
