Itching in that "area"

My little man Rex seems to be itching quite A LOT in that "area" lately at first I thought "well maybe he's just cleaning" ?? But now I think that it seems excessive. Anyone else ever had this problem? he's 12 1/2 weeks old now and eats/drinks great. He also seems to be itching his face a lot too... I was thinking he was rubbing his face along the floor (growling at the same time - pretty funny actually) because he's teething but could it be that his eyes itch?

Check for a rash. Could be impetigo or another bacterial infection... Impetigo appears as raised red bumps that progress to pus-filled blisters. It's easily transferable between dogs, especially to puppies under a year. If its a rash of any kind just take him to the vet. Other than that I don't have any good suggestions, sorry!

If there is something going on that you are not sure never hurts to go see your vet and have things checked out. Keep us posted!

If you think it is excessive, I would probably get it checked just to rule anything out. I remember thinking Augie sure scratched himself a lot as a pup. I did have the vet check him when I took him in and nothing was found. He did say that their nerve endings are still developing in their skin when they are young and can cause itching. It gradually got less and less and nothing else was going on. However, I don't remember him going after himself 'in that area'. Augie's itching was mostly in his hip area. Oh, and Augie does clean himself thoroughly after he pees, and puppies pee quite frequently. Maybe he is just cleaning himself. I wish Finn would - Ha. If Rex is drinking from a water bowl, maybe his whiskers are getting wet and he is trying to dry them off? Just random thoughts.....
