Baby Brother coming soon!!

Gryff is getting a baby brother! It just all fell into place. Gryff is such a total mommy's dog that I am really nervous about introducing a puppy, but I think it will be a great thing for the rest of my family. As most of you know, Gryff loves me to the exception of my son and husband. He has almost nothing to do with them and only tolerates my 11 year old.

I can use all the advice all you experienced multi-dog owners can give me. He should be coming home in about two weeks.

Ivy

Congrats

Congratulations!!! I know exactly what yu are going through. Vanilla was supposed to be my daughters dog yet she bonded to me and although she will play with kids she is clearly my dog. So when we decided to add another dog, my daughter made me promise it would be hers.....

This time around I made sure my daughter is the one who feeds and walks (99%) of the time and I signed them up for puppy training ASAP together. I think these things have really helped create the bond she missed last time around. Its great to see Latte snuggling with my very happy daughter (and I don't have to share my love bug anymore )

When you get the puppy home, make everyone else take care of it. Make them responsible for feeding, walking (when the time comes), etc. I also think the classes with the other members of the family is a great idea.

Yeah!!! Congrats!

I have a friend with two have and a son who had the same exact situation. When she got the second, she started him off sleeping in her sons room. He feeds him and holds his leash when they walk. The second one became her son's dog from day 1.

Good for you Ivy. Here's a few articles I like. Be prepared for the possibility of a change in Gryff when his brother reaches adolescence and his puppy liscence runs out. LOL Lots of pics.

Here are details: He is one of Janet Birdsall's, a yuppy puppy. I have been looking for a breeder near where I live in New York, but wasn't finding any that I really liked. I had planned a trip to visit my family in Ocala, FL and decided on a whim to look and see if there was a breeder nearby. Lucky me. Janet didn't have any puppies left from this litter, but then decided to give up the one she had originally wanted to keep and now he is ours. I will meet him on Saturday.

The plan is for Chuck and Alec to be not only primary caregivers, but the sole caregivers for the first few weeks. In fact, my DH doesn't want me having much of any contact with the dog for the first few weeks, but I think that is going a bit overboard. We'll figure it all out.

We are still figuring out a name.

Congrats!!!! I am so happy for you. I think your plan is very well though out. I always make for sure that every member of the family is included in the day to day care of the dogs, I am probably their favorite (DH says this), they all have bonded with him and do very well with hanging out with guests, all our kids who visit and live her part time. It is important to me because sometimes I am out of the country and they need to feel secure. Don't forget the pictures, can't wait to hear all about your newest family member.

Poohkey miss you, monkey.
