Bad Breath

Good Lord! Toby's breath stinks worse than a sewer!

He is teething (molars now) and I KNOW the smell is from teething, but Jesus, does it have to stink so bad?

The new teeth are making their way out and moving the baby teeth to the sides. They, in turn are moving but not falling yet, so they get food behind, causing the foul smell.

I brush his teeth with some yummy smelling paste (vanilla something), he gets parsley with every meal and still the poor thing is like a skunk.

I can't wait for ALL his baby teeth to fall off!

get a box of dental chews. They last a long time, but Rosie still loves them and she will be 3 tomorrow.

Be careful of dental chews! That's what put Kodi in the hospital last year, and the folks at Tufts told me they are THE most common cause of obstruction that they see.

Pam (Maccabee's breeder) told me not to give Maccabee dental chews.

Karen Kodi must bite pieces off or something. Rosie just chews on them and I finally throw one away and give her another. They stay whole in other words. Now my neighbors labradoodle came into my house and immediately scarfed up two that were on the floor. I think he must have swallowed them whole. No danger with Rosie, guess it depends on the individual dog.

Pam knows very well what we went through with Kodi!

Yes, that's exactly what he did. But you don't know ahead of time which dog is going to do which. You are lucky that Rosie uses them "appropriately", unlike "Jaws" (errr... I mean Kodi!) Still, considering what they told me at the vet hospital, I'd stay away from them unless I knew FOR SURE that my dog wasn't going to try to bite pieces off. Sounds like you're fine with Rosie, but I want other people to know the potential danger!

He won't chew on anything hard. It bothers him. He is even refusing to eat his beef or chicken mix (which he doesn't have to chew at all).

I didn't have the time to read all the responses of your post. Maddie had to have several teeth extracted because her teeth were coming in with her baby teeth still in place. It can be a problem with the permanent teeth not lining up properly. and can cause bite problems. They had to put her under for the extractions. So if she is scheduled for spaying in the near future maybe it can be done at the same time?
