Puppy Coming Home

Tomorrow we are picking up our puppy!! I have a couple of questions. We are driving about 2.5 hours to the breeder. What items should we have handy? Some Havanese get car sick. Is there a medecine we should bring?

Thanks

When I went to pick Roki I took a small crate and couple od ordinary towels. Roki was drolling a lot so I used towels to wipe him just to stay comfortable. Breeder did not give him any food that morning so he did not womit. It is best if two people go to pick puppy. I put the crate on the back seat and sat there myself to entertain Roki. I made stops every 45 mins and took Roki out for five minutes. when we came home he was all OK. I let him first explore his new home, relieve himself and after half hour I gave him small meal and water.
Good luck! We need pictures ASAP! A lot of them!

We picked up Lucky together (about a two hour ride as well). DH drove and I held the puppy on my lap. It was a lot for the pup-first time with us, first car ride, etc. etc. but I think being held was calming for him. I brought a water bottle so he could sip from it but he'd never seen such a thing. He was panting a lot and I wished I'd brought a small bowl to offer him a bit of water. The breeder provided a crate (he's never been in that either) which sat unattended on the bak seat. Good luck with the trip and the bowl and water is all I can suggest. Happy homecoming.

make sure your camera's batteries are good to go, we like pictures!
Have fun, safe trip.
Bring extra paper towels in case he is car sick.
Leash for rest-stop. Keep it on your wrist, holding it tight.

Congratulations!

Yes, the camera is the important thing - the one you don't want to forget!

I was a bad mother, but I held both of mine in my lap on their car rides home, had a towel in my lap for accidents. I had taken a crate, just in case, but didn't use it for the trip home. Finn's breeder sent a washable pee pad that had been used at her home, and we put it on the floor of the car, and Finn went potty there, about halfway through our 4-5 hour drive home. She also sent him with a little harness. We took water and a little dish and paper towels. I would probably take some wet washcloths in a Zip-Loc, to clean him up just in case he does throw up.

I would NOT let him on the ground at a rest stop, since he won't have all of his immunizations.

When we picked Kodi up, DH had to hold him and he cried the whole way home, about 2 hrs. When we got Shelby, we met half way and she had gotten sick. On the 3 hr ride home, she just laid on the back seat and didn't make a sound. She is still like that. Kodi is still a basket case in the car.

So just be prepared for anything.

I always put mine in a crate with towels. The drive from getting my Havs was 6 1/2 hours. I didn't give them water until we got home, nor potty them. They did fine.
I need help to begin a new thread, forgot how.

I was going to say bring paper towels, but that's been covered. Exciting time! Take lots of photos.
