Questions: Introducing new pup (10 weeks) to our other pup (5 months)
I am a new member to the forum and a new Havanese owner (we have had Rowlf for 2 months and just got him a new playmate over the weekend) with some questions about introducing the new pup to our existing dog child. Rowlf, the 5 month old, is quite exceptional- in the 2 months we have had him he is 90% potty trained indoors and out, he can Sit, Lay Down, Roll Over, AND shake (he just picked shake up this morning YAY!) but is a very docile dog. He doesn't have much interest in other dogs except a select few (his best friend is a mini pomeranian) but when we brought the new pup home, they seem to play constantly but I can't tell if it is playing or if he is getting a bit territorial. His tail does wag at times, but he has always been very protective over his food and bed. I think he is also a bit selfish when it comes to playing with me as well (the new pup is my boyfriend's dog and I really think Rowlf is a mommy hog lol) but I guess what I am wondering is if anyone has any tips on socializing them in the best way possible to make sure they grow up to share and love. While Rowlf is quite calm, he is assertive when the two play- he always pins him or shoves him with his butt, he rarely growls but the pup does quite often. The new pup is an energetic, brave, scrappy guy and is starting to learn a lot from Rowlf as they are half brothers (different litter- same dad). Maybe this is normal, but any thoughts to ease an overly protective and caring mom?
