Kallie's 1st night

Great night. The crate just wasn't going to happen, so I decided to just let her sleep in her ex-pen in the kitchen. She settled down around 9:00 last night. I went to bed @ 11, DH ended up sleep on the couch so he could hear her in case she woke up. I got up & we changed places (he went to bed, I slept on couch). She woke up @ 6:30 this morning. A pee & poop on her pee pad and 1 poop off the pad. I was totally good with that. She was just absolutely happy & wiggly when she woke up. Took her out immediately & she peed. Pee Parties are a regular thing here now. She was starved for breakfast. Not real sure yet how much she should be eating, breeder said to let her eat what she wants. I gave her 1/4 cup and that wasn't enough. Gave her a little more & she seemed satisfied. Played w/balls, she loves playing "bring it back" and "leave it". We took her out on the patio for a while this morning. Each time & went into the house DH said she cried. She did the same thing when he went in. After playing for a while, I put her back in her ex-pen. Boy was she unhappy! Wailing like she was being tortured. As long as we're in the room with her she settles fine. But she's not liking us out of her sight. As long as we're in the kitchen she's fine in the pen, but just sitting or laying looking at us, not playing with chewtoys.

I've very happy with the way things went yesterday & last night. But when we go to work tomorrow, she's not going to be very happy. She's really not sleeping all that much. Just short little catnaps. I know she's geting used to all new sounds, so I think she's waking up easily. At 10 wks, maybe she's not requiring as much sleep.

After being settled in the ex-pen for about an hour, DH has let her out again & is playing with her. We'll leave her out for about 1/2 hr, then put her back into the pen. Any suggestions or corrections from the experts? I'm just really dreading tomorrow for her!

Puppies sleep a lot. I think that she keeping herself awake because it is a new place with new sights and sounds.

The only thing I can say about leaving her is not to make a big production about it. No "teary goodbyes". When you get home, don't make a mad dash for her in excitement. Take the time to put things down. Be calm. Then scoop her up and take her out for the pee party.

TTFN,
Pam

I'll leave for work just before 8:00 am, come home for lunch (I have an hr & only work 5 miles from home), then I'll be home around 4:30. I would have loved to take the week off, but it wasn't possible. We'll adapt. Not the perfect start, but no choice. Breeder was fully aware & didn't think it would be an issue. I'm guessing she'll be full of p*ss & vinegar when I am here! This is the main reason for keeping her with both pee pads & outside training. I know she can't hold it that long. She's been so calm today. If we aren't playing with her, she's just entertaining herself w/her toys. Trying to make it all as natural as it will normally be. Of course playtime is very active.

I'm impressed with the 6:30 wakeup!! Brody was great for sleeping through the night from the very beginning, but the start of his day was more like 5am!

LOL - I'll be impressed after tonight! But DH gets up @ 4:30 am, so it will be a good time to take her out to potty.

She's not eating very well right now. Took her for another car ride this afternoon & she threw up again. All of her lunch. Poor thing. We'll just keep trying til she gets thru this.

Success again last night. Put her to bed @ 9:00 and she slept til DH woke her up @ 4:45 this morning. I slept on the couch in so I could hear her in case she woke up. Not a peep. She has played her little heart out this morning, so she's pretty tired again. I have to go to work today, so this will be a hard day for her.

Look forward to hearing how your lunch time visit goes. She will most likely sleep all morning .
