soft poo?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if its normal?
Our 4 month old puppy has pretty firm stools in the morning, but as the day goes on it gets softer and softer. Its not runny but it does stick to the ground a bit. We are feeding Blue(lamb and oatmeal) and we have also tried Blue ( chicken and rice). Thanks

Maybe puppy is eating too much? Along with the treats?

I feed him 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/3 cup in the evening and just a few treats spread throughout the day. Would that be considered too much?

Depends on how much he weighs. Mine is only 3 lbs. I feed him 3 times a day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I spread the food out evenly. Although I havent had Ted long, I have had Scotties before him and whenever they had too much food and treats I would get soft poos as a result. Try giving his meals in an even amount each meal and keep an eye. Remember if changing foods it has to be very gradually also I have heard pure pumpkin is good for the runs, but not an expert on that one.

If Blue is Blue Buffalo, I found that the protein content was too high for my Hav. I moved her to Innova. Last month, both my dogs had several weeks of loose stools. I think there was a bug going around. I gave them some plain canned pumpkin with a meal. You might want to try that.

I'm feeding Quincy Acana Ranchlands three times a day. In the morning and evening I mix about a tablespoon of Wellness puppy into 1/4 cup of the dry food. At noon he gets 1/4 cup of the Acana dry kibble and he'll munch on that depending on how active he's been in the morning. Sometimes he doesn't even want the noon meal, but I put it out anyway. We've only had him a little over a week, but he's regular and his stools are always formed.
Meant to add that when I treat him, I use pieces of the dry kibble or once in a while will give him the Little Jacs training treats.

When Brody was a pup he'd invariably get soft poos when he was getting too many treats. For example if he got even more than 1 nutro max puppy drumstick cookie (which are relatively small) in a day his poops would start to get soft. I just made sure to break up his treats into very tiny bits (so I'd break up the cookie into many pieces) and this really helped.

He's 17 months now and I'm still treating him from that same box of biscuits.

I fed him 1/4 cup three times a day of his kibble. I still do, but now he doesn't always eat every meal, but it varies which meal(s) he'll skip, if any, so I still give him the option.

Thanks for all the advice. I will try another brand of food and some pumpkin. I would feed him 3 times aday but he usually has some food left over for lunch still. I don't think Charlie is overweight but he is 9lbs. and we usually use Wellness treats.
