How do I stop my labrador from being so aggressive when treats are around?

I have a labrador retriever named Molly who is a very sweet dog. The only time we really have a problem with her is when we give her treats. She never bites, but if I have a treat that I am giving her, she will bite me to get the treat. How can I stop this problem?

Do you make Molly wait to eat until you give her permission? She needs to realize that you are her alpha and that food is in your control. She shouldn't get anything until you say "ok" or what ever your command is. Make her sit and wait patiently when you put her food dish down at meals and not start eating until you say "ok". Same with treats. She needs to sit first and wait for the command. Then, don't give her the treat until she takes it gently. It doesn't usually take them very long to understand once you put some parameters on it. You might check out this website http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm It's a training philosophy called Nothing in Life is Free that I find helpful with my dogs (currently 3 labs and a havanese).

hth!

Both of the above are good answers. I don't know why we treat dogs all the time anyway. We don't treat our toddlers everytime they do what we want.
