Encouraging Independance?

Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has any advice on encouraging your pup to play by themselves a little bit more. Zoey has an ex-pen which she eats from and will occassionally fall asleep in during the day, but absolutely hates it when I leave her in it, even when I stay in the room with her, she freaks right out, shes fine if I go inside it with her and play for a bit till she's tired then I slowly make my way out, or I try and leave her in it while she sleeps, but as soon as I move she's awake and knows something is up and immediately gets up. I've tried the treat and praise thing when she's quiet in her pen and just taking a few steps back but to be honest it's not working at all, cause she cries more and more after I give her a treat for being quiet. I leave the TV and everything so she won't feel lonley, but I'm not even trying to leave the house yet, just the room so I can get some things down around the house. We have lots of play time both inside and outside and she always goes to the bathroom before I attempt to put her in there so I know that's not an issue. I have been ignoring her when I let her out of her pen and she just follows me around (my house is very small) I just feel guilty now playing with her lots becuase I feel like it's just going to reinforce her wanting me to play with her all the time and not having her own quiet time, when I put her in her pen for quiet time, she just loses it. She is just over 8 weeks old, and my husband says I'm reading too much into it and she will be ok and get use to things, am I expecting too much from her right now? and is it a bad thing to play with her when she's trying to get my attention to play. I would love to be able to take her for walks to tire her out before giving her quiet time, however she hasn't had all her shots so I can't leave my yard with her, any suggestions!

she is still just a BABY!! 8 weeks is so, SO very young for these Havs to leave thier mom and litter mates ... be patient with her. If she is nicely following you around (not nipping at your feet or peeing anywhere) then let her follow you. She can follow you and you can still ignore her. Trust me. Tillie follows me ALL the time (it is a trait of the breed) and I rarely even notice she is there. They have a talent for following like a shadow...
as for the pen questions, hopefully someone more knowledgable about that will chime in.
We got Tillie at 14 weeks, so I didn't need to use the x-pen very much.

Ted is fine in his pen. He has all his naps in it and his overnight sleep. I have his food outside of the pen. He seems to like that better. When I leave him in the pen I leave him a dish of water. In his pen he has a blanket that I had at the breeders to have the scent of me and his Mom and littermates. Maybe that is helping him. He has started barking at me alot lately but he is going on 14 weeks. He only barks at me

They like to be near you. Dexter slowed down at 1 year. Of course, we got Jack because Dexter was about to wear me out!
