Hi y'all!! New Hava mom with tons of questions.

Hi everyone. I have always wanted a Havanese and the other day my hubby surprised me with a cute 12 week old puppy. I was and am so excited. We named her Luna. I took her to the vet and she was given a clean bill of health.....for being only 7 1/2 weeks old. REALLY!??? I asked my hubs for the papers and sure enough she was born on 12/21 After further research in the company (a pet store) I think they get their pups from a puppy mill . I will still love my sweet girl but I am sad. Anyway I am looking for recommendations on shampoos and conditioners (solid black coat with a teeny tiny white chest patch), dry food, ect ect.. I could also use any advise on how to start training such a tiny baby. Should I wait a little longer before training?? Any help/tips/advise is greatly appreciated.

I wash Maya with shampoo that contains oatmeal. Very good for their coats. I am currently feeding her Halo, but am gradually changing her to Wellness. You want a high quality dog food. Does your hubby know what food she was being fed before? If and when you do change her food, do so gradually, or she will have tummy problems.
Good luck with your baby girl. Be sure to post lots of pics. This forum is a good place to learn just about everything in caring for your baby girl. She is adorable.
Welcome to the forum.

What Dave said is especially true for a puppy mill puppy, who has not had the best start in terms of socialization. While I know, just from the way you posted, that you wouldn't have purposely gotten a puppy mill puppy, now that you have her, I'm sure you will love her to bits, and you are actually LUCKY that she is as young as she is... you can start training her the RIGHT way, and socializing her well EARLY!!!

Remember that potty training may be harder, and take longer, just because she is both very young still, AND has probably had no other choice but to eliminate wherever she was. Be patient, and she'll get that too, in time!

Welcome! She's adorable!

Welcome and good luck with your new baby! She is precious. I hear the Eqyss brand is a good line for shampoo/conditioners.

Thanks y'all. I am so in love with her already. My hubby thought he was doing good. He had no idea that she could have come from a mill. We look forward to having her grow with us as a family. It is a little overwhelming being that she is so small. We have her on Eukanuba puppy since that is what she was on when she was purchased. I will wait until she is closer to 15 weeks and then slowly try to change her to something a bit better for her. Thanks for your replies. I am so grateful that there is a place like this to come and chat

She's beautiful. Get a gentle shampoo/conditioner and one that won't sting if you accidently get it in the eyes. Another tip is to dilute them really well with water; helps you to evening distribute it thru the coat. You use less and easier to rinse and faster bath experience. For your little pup it's easiest to bath in the sink. I don't fill it with water; they get really panicky if you put them in a bath. they do better with a "shower" rather than a "bath".

For food: there are lots of good quality dry foods out there. for such a young pup i would soften the food with a bit of warm water and let it sit to make it easier to chew with baby teeth just coming in.

Start training early. set limits. take her to her "pee spot" to do her business when you know she needs to go and lots and lots of praise when she does it in the right spot. It will take her a long time to figure it out but lots of positive reinforcement will help.

keep posting photos of Luna. She's beautiful!
