New Havanese Mom to 11 Week Old Miley

Hello,

I'm introducing myself. My family and I just adopted a chocolate and white (at least for now) Havanese named Miley (my 3 year old named her after watching Hannah Montana). She has been with us for 2 weeks and is a sweetheart! We have had some health issues, though, so I'm not sure how reputable our breeder was.

Somehow, she contracted a UTI and has had a bout of diarrhea and kennel cough??? We ended up at the University of TN emergency vet clinic in the wee early hours last Friday morning (3 hours after I had just arrived home from a week long trip that ended in 12 hours of plane travel). The vet thinks she is healthy otherwise and now Miley is on antibiotics and dewormer. She was not very peppy this weekend, but is doing much better now.

We are still dealing with the soft poops, though...and getting her to take her meds has been interesting. Other than that, we are GREAT!

Welcome, Miley! She's just too cute for words. I hope she starts feeling better real soon. Can't wait to hear about her escapades.

Thanks for all of the replies. Miley is much better and ready to play again. She is so funny to watch as she fetches toys and waddles back to you with them in her mouth (some as big as she is). Watching her play is so entertaining.

She is sensitive and did not want to have anything to do with us after we gave her first round of meds on Friday. It took her a couple of hours to forgive us. After that, I decided on putting it into a small amount of wet food and we have had no more issues. She gobbles it right up. I'm sure this does nothing for her soft poo issue, but emotionally this is the best option for all of us. I love her puppy kisses and couldn't stand it when she was giving us the silent treatment. That was awful! Other than a few health concerns, we are adjusting well.

Working on potty training is going much better since she started the antibiotics for the UTI. She holds it longer than 30 min at a time now, we crate her at night, put her in the bathroom with a puppy pad during the day and watch her like a hawk when we are home with her in the evenings. She uses the pad during the day,but once she is out of the bathroom, she forgets about it. I take her out several times per day and at night. We had our first accident free day today!

So that is a bit more on Miley! I am so looking forward to getting to know all of you better!
