I think we're nearly ready! :)

Oh, Hump Day is almost over! We're getting *so* close to bringing our little guy home on Saturday, and I am crawling out of my skin with excitement. I've been nesting as if I'm imminently expecting a human baby. I've done major spring cleaning in all of the bedrooms, the office, and all the closets. I took Tux's ex pen (a hand-me-down from his big cousins, a Border Collie and a Great Pyrenees) to the DIY car wash tonight and gave it a nice, good hose down. We've got Tux's area all cleared out and ready for the pen, but we're not setting it up until after we tell the kids on Friday.

I've got our supply list written up and researched. I bought his collar and leash today, because I just couldn't wait a minute longer. However, we're not buying anything else until we go on our big family shopping trip on Friday. (Our kids are going to absolutely lose their minds over the fact that they're finally getting the dog for which they've been asking for over a year.)

I've read six books including "Havanese" by Diane Klumb and Joanne Baldwin, "The Puppy Primer" by Patricia B. McConnell, "Puppy Training: 6 Weeks to Better Behaved Puppy" by Carol Miller, "Potty Training Success Formula: Seven Simple Steps to Housetrain Your Dog in a Week" by Tracy M. Allan, "Before You Get Your Puppy", and "After You Get Your Puppy" both by Ian Dunbar (and both which I found to be a bit comical). So, I feel like I've got a well-rounded plan, as well as well-grounded expectations for what's to come.

I just can't wait to bring Tux home to his forever home!!!

You got me excited too! I hope with all those books that your new baby will be house trained fast! Mine are two and a half and still have accidents but I never pined them up because I couldn't stand the crying.

Sounds like exactly what I have been going through! I get my hav puppy on 4/26 and I cannot wait! Her name is Izzy. My mother is getting her brother. It's funny that you say you are nesting because that is exactly what I said to my husband a couple of weeks ago. I have also read several books, scoured the forums for information and tips and gotten my house in order. Your baby is beautiful. Good luck and I look forward to seeing more pictures. Bring on the puppies!!

One more thing to add to your shopping list... You need a soft, cloth harness (look up "Puppia" brand. It doesn't need to be that brand, but built like that) to start your puppy off with. You don't want to be pulling on that soft little puppy neck, and puppies don't arrive knowing how to walk on a loose leash.

Try to get one that fits well, but don't spend a ton on it. I found that Kodi outgrew his first harness pretty quickly!

Thanks, Karen! My original instinct was to go with a harness, but then I heard that it can cause terrible mats for a Hav. I'll look into the Puppia harnesses!

Remember to stock up on sleep before the puppy gets there...after that it can be in short supply!
