Got Zack today!

Hi Guys,
I haven't posted in awhile during my search for the perfect puppy. Well we brought home Zackarius today (Zack). I'm afraid he's traumatized. He vomited 4 times in the car and he looks so pitiful. I hated taking him away from his home and playmates he was so playful. He is now just curled up and looks so lonely. How long will he be in this state? Any suggestions for making his transition smoother.

Sounds a lot like my Lilly. She didn't get sick but she was very shy for a day or two then she started to feel more comfortable. Just sit and talk to her, read a book play with her toys while you sit close to her. He will come around real soon. Do you know if he like a special treat? Perhaps that would help also. Patience my dear.

Congratulations on your new puppy! I like the name. My breeder provides a blanket that has the smell of the mom and the littermates to it. It goes in the crate and the puppy feels secure. The first couple of days are rough on the puppy. We played with Benji (that's my older one) a little bit when we brought him home and let him sniff the entire family room before introducing him to his ex-pen which is located in the family room. We kept the crate, his water bowl, food bow, piddle pad and a couple of toys in the ex-pen. At night, we kept him in the crate next to our bed on the table. Any time he cried or whined (which was only on the first night) I put my finger through and that pacified him. I continued with the same kibble and snack that my breeder was giving her puppies.

I just adopted a second furbaby a week ago. She too is settled well and sleeps in her crate through out the night.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Enjoy your little darling and we would love to see some pictures.

Best, Poornima

Congrats on your wonderful little Zack!! All three of mine threw up on the way home and were fairly pathetic! Lots of loves & cuddles and time will get him used to his new forever home. It seemed like the first few nights were the worst, they missed their "pack" You usually will have whining and crying at night, and when you leave, but he will get better with each day - I promise!! Can we see some pics?? Lily, Lexi & Logan send kisses to the new baby

Welcome Home Zack I am sure he will start to adjust soon. I was very blessed that my breeder was very close to me (20 minutes) and I got to see Jillee every week, so when we went to pick her up to bring her home she went right to me.....plus she really wanted to be with me alot because I was the one that always came and played with her. My breeder sent her home with one of her toys and she still likes to play with it. I gave her a little blankie that she cuddled up with that had our sent on. I think if you give him lots of tlc he will do just fine.....we love pictures so when you have time take a few and post them!!!!!! Let us know how he is doing!!!!!!

Thanks for the encouragment, I will take pictures tomorrow and hopefully get them posted without difficulty. I've been talking to him quietly and his tail is beginning to wag.

Allyson,

Congratulations on your new puppy. I am sure that Zack just needs a little time to get acclimated to his new environment. Give him lots of attention, love and kisses. He had a big change and has been taken away from all that was familiar. Did your breeder give him a blanky or his favorite toy to take home with you?

I know that it's not uncommon for puppies to get sick during car rides. I suggest that you take him in the car as often as possible, even if just to sit there for a few minutes or to go on a short ride around the block. It will help him get used to it and to even like it. All my guys LOVE car rides. The second I reach for my purse , all three are down stairs.

Good luck and we'll be waiting for the pics, impatiently.

Congratulations!! I was so nervous the first night we brought Marley home that I was the one that got barely any sleep. He was totally fine, despite the fact that my neighbor let him drop out of her arms the second we brought him home .....argh....we basically had him with us 24/7 for the first few days and he was fine as long as he had someone to cuddle with.

But hello...aren't you missing something here???

- darn it - the "this thread is worthless without pictures" icon doesn't work here.....

Congrats on the new pup. I brought a blanket to the breeders and had her keep it for a few days before we brought Gryff home so he would have the scent of his mom and littermates. Unfortunately, he puked all over it in the car -- twice. You're not alone. Gryff took a while to get adjusted. All is well now, if he'd stop using my house like a toilet.

Milo was very quiet the first several days. He did follow me around but he would go off and curl up by himself a lot. I thought in the beginning that he didn't know how to bark. Hahaha. How I wish sometimes for the quiet days.

Give him lots of kisses and give him a little time to adjust. Look forward to seeing pictures.
